Question about Frigidaire 20.3 cu. ft. Upright Freezer GLFU2067F

1 Answer

What can I do to get rid of frost build-up (more than 8" long & 1/2" Deep) on my NEW FROST FREE FRIGIDAIRE FREEZER GLFU2067F?

I've had 3 services calls on a brand new freezer. Purchased 2 days before Thanksgiving 2007 - frost started building up within 2 days of being delivered & installed.
The door was missing insulation. The frost builds up on the bottom side of the TOP of the inside door frame and also on the top of the 1st door shelf on the door itself. I only noticed because it got so bad that when I opened the freezer, the ice fell on my head.
The service guys installed installation (very poorly I might add) to the door. It's worse now than when we first got the freezer and it didn't have insulation in the door.
There was ice & condensation inside the door (duh - it had ice in it), but the service guys didn't remove/dry it before putting the insulation. I've had 4 service calls and now an offer to put a new door on the unit.

But I have to ask myself ... I bought a NEW-IN-BOX unit ... why should I have to call for service? Shouldn't the unit work right out of the box? Doesn't the unit sound defective?

Lowe's says they'll give us our money back. I think I may go this route. The Frigidaire rep for Lowes in Denver/Lakewood, CO says they'll provide an insulated door. If the new door doesn't work, we'll not be able to get our money back and only get partial refund of hte total cost .. plus I won't have a freezer. Why would I agree to get the door replaced ... which our experience has been ... it won't work and then I lose out on getting full price reimbursement?

What else could be wrong? The 3rd party service team and frigidaire can't seem to get it right.

How do you make a freezer frost free?

Frost free means that the evaporator coil will not accumulate a thick layer of frost. It will not prevent frost from accumulating on the walls of the freezer. To slow down the amount of frost build up inside the freezer, do not keep the freezer door open for any longer than necessary. The freezer door seal may be defective. This would allow moisture in that would freeze on the inside walls. A heater with timed intervals to come on is one way for a frost free feature. But this will not work for frost build up on the inside walls of the freezer. It would only melt the frost and then it would refreeze again.

Our Frigidaire frost frost free upright freezer from day one has frost build up on the food inside the packages. The frost is not a problem in the freezer itself, but on the food. Freezer burn occur

Hi Dale Dibb, thank you for your inquiry!

I understand that the food inside of your Frigidaire freezer is getting frost on the inside of the packages. I would recommend turning the temperature up inside of your freezer. Additionally moisture inside of the package would cause frost to develop on the inside of the food packages.

Please assure that all possible moisture has been removed out of the food packages prior to placing the items inside of the freezer. If there is anything else that I can help you with, please feel free to reconnect! -Matt

Frost build up usually indicates an air leak - check your door seals and any part of the door for gaps. Also make sure the unit does not need to perform a defrost cycle.

I am experiencing frost build up on the top part of the door as well as the top part of the inside of the freezer. all other areas are fine

You have an air leak. Usually right where you frost build up is, however since hot air rises, sometimes this leak can be anywhere. Make sure your door closes tightly and your gaskets are clean and making good contact. You may have to adjust the gasket, adjust the door, or replace the door gasket. If there is ice on the floor of the freezer, you have a plugged drain line. In very rare instances we have found, where the freon lines enter the freezer, in the back or under the freezer, missing or fallen refrigeration putty that seals around the lines. Defected DEFROST HEATER can cause frost build up on the panel at the back of the freezer, and freezer stop cooling and ice frozen on unit so air could not flow to refrigerator side.Water will coming out caused of unbalanced freezing, and causing the flooding of water in the floor. You must change this defroster heater assembly so it will works normal again..
