Buzzing Audiolab 8000M/8000C set up

Hi. I just bought the following on ebay, which were described as ''excellent''. 2nr Audiolab 8000M 1nr Audiolab 8000C.

When I connect up the monoblocks I get buzzing and crackling from the speakers. If I add the 8000C to the circuit it becomes more of a buzz, which is ''cleaner''. All of this is very noticeable and the units are unuseable. I also tried using my 8000A as a pre amp, and the problem is still there.

Any ideas as t what is wrong, who could fix it and what it may cost? I am in London.

Thank you for your ideas. I have tested the equipment using a different mains supply. I have also changed all the supply leads and checked that all plugs are earthed. All of that was ok. Not sure what else to look at now.

I also have an Audiolab 8000A. I tried using that as a power pre amp and still got the buzzing in the speakers. I then tried it as a power amp with the 8000C I bought, and got no output whatsoever, so it looks like all 3 components are not working.

    Any ideas as to costs/

just re read all this and realised I should have mentioned that the amps don't give too much speaker buzz when they are powered up without sources connected. add in a tuner or a CD player and it then starts to generate a lot of buzzing through the speakers.

i am afraid either the power section or the power amp is burnt. it will not cost that much to repair. any qualified tech should be able to repair it.

if the item is not as described, you can file for the significantly not as described dispute and you will be given a shipping label to ship back the item to the seller hence you will get refund for the item that you purchased.

Audiolab 8000CD Player Problem

This may be a problem with the sled motor. This is the motor that moves the optical assembly in and out along a rail. Try openint up the unit and cleaning off the rail with a dry cotton swab. Be careful not the leave any fibers on the rails. Also, while you are in there, clean the lens using another cotton swab and alcohol. Report back with your results.
