Hi, i understand your reply, but this is not the first disc we have recordered on this camera and it has played normally. I suspect that the finalizing is not completing correctly as the DVD palyer says that it is not in the machine. Is there a software packe to install please?

To "See" your DVD you MUST get the "Codec" that the DVD is "Written" in. This must be installed on the PC, before it will "See" the format. So get the relevant CODEC, download and install, then you will be able to play your DVD. Also, see if formatting it first in the PC, and then inserting into recorder will work, some do some don't, but it's worth a try first, get those CODEC's or try writing the DVD, in some other format, that Windows will recognize? If possible.

How to burn a dvd from an acer laptop

The laptop should have come with CD/DVD burning software preloaded. Acer's specs page for your model says it comes with NTI Media Maker. The program will have help information available to guide you through, and you can find more help online. If you just want to write data files onto a DVD, the process typically is not much more than dragging files to a layout window and telling the program to burn the disc. This gives you a way to back up data, or to store movies in formats you can view on a computer (AVI, MPG, etc.).

On the other hand, if you're asking how to make a video DVD that will play in a regular DVD player like a commercial movie, maybe with features like menus or scene selection and such, the process for making that kind of DVD is more involved. You need some DVD authoring software. NTI may offer that capability, but I'll admit I have never looked.

In most cases, the software that comes preloaded on computers is a limited version of some commercial product. The computer manufacturers get paid to include the program, and the software company hopes you'll buy the full version when you discover the limitations. If you don't want to pay for software, there are free, more full-featured programs available for downloading.

For general CD and DVD burning, I use CDBurnerXP. To make video DVDs, I use a program called DVDStyler. Both are open-source, meaning they are 100% free to download and use, and they both offer a lot of features.

INCOMPATIBLE DISC

Good news.. you should be able to put the disc back in to the device that you recorded in on... and go to the menu to do the finalize... in fact, you may be able to add more to you disc prior to the finalize process if you want...
once it's finalized you should be able to view on other equipment... your files should all be there as well.

Let me know how you do!

Movie recording disabled

it's either you finalized a disk or your memory stick is full. if possible delete recordings and or photos in your memory stick to enable recording, or put a blank disc..once a disc is finalized it cannot be used to record on the cam but could still be viewed on the cam by selecting the media format,

Camera wants to (re)format disc w/data on it; I can't lose data

Hi there. With only the information you gave me, I would have to say that the disk is what we call "finalized". Once a disk is finalized, you cannot record anything else on it. My guess...is that if you tried to re-format this disk, it would not let you do it...because it's finalized. Don't bother, just get yourself a new disk.

Thanks for using FixYa, and if you have anymore questions, leave me a comment. If not, don't forget to rate my solution a fixya!

I burnt a data DVD incorrectly and am trying to locate the files

yes, you are right, the picare are stored on the DVD. however, the pic need to be in a windows XP or Vista comparable format (jpag is the most common).
Close the popup asking you "to drag the file to the disc". This is because the dvd is not completely full or you did not finalized the dvd.
go to "my computer" click on the drive where the dvd is loaded. click on open or explorer. you should be able to see what is on the dvd.

Finalizing a disc (when plugged in) on a Canon DC210

I think it is a problem with the camera.
We had one, couldn't finalize, exchanged that, and still the same problem.
Canon NO help whatsoever.
Even the mini disc companies that we purchased, NO help either.
We are returning this camera and going with a hard drive.
We were able to plug the camera to a DVD recorder and copy onto a full size disc.

DirectCD and cd1000 and File Error viewing on cd1000

I've had some errors on my discs. What I've found is after you finalize them, if there is still room on the disc you can initialize then and use the empty space still on them. This can also fix some error, and I don't know why.
