Question about Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server

No power on my PowerEdge 1800 Server

Just moved my Dell PowerEdge 1800 server to a new location. Now it won't power on at all. No lights, fans, nothing. I'm guessing it's the power supply that needs to be replaced. What's the fastest way to do this? Can I buy any 650W power supply or must I get it from Dell?

Dells power supplies must come from dell. I would call dell and give then the service tag number of your server and they will be able to tell you about how much a power supply is.

I have a Dell's PowerEdge 1800 server and the server's fans are making a loudy noise. Is there any way of quieting them down? Thanks, Ricardo

The fan bearings are worn, it is best to replace them.
As a temporary measure you can insert a small drop of oil on the bearing, the bearing can be accessed by carefully lifting the label in the center of the fan.

Dell 1800 poweredge when I press the button does not start, I can see green light on one of the display. what cause not to boot up?

you might want to check the power supply unit first, as it is very common for them to burn out and not supply the correct power to start up the server..
the 2nd thing i would do, is do a visual inspection of the motherboard , looking for any traces of burns, if any are found, replace the server.

yes you can do that but you need the drivers for the scsi interface. when you install windows xp (for example) i think you may have to press the f6 key on the installation to add these drivers.

Otherwise, installation wont take place.

Flashing redlight on the front

Yes. Here are some things that could be an issue:

a problem with power supplies, fans, system temperature, or SCSI hard drives.

Install the Dell Open Manager software to run diagnostic. It will tell you what needs to be fixed.

Dell poweredge 1800 scsi drive not found

Hi,
check if the drive is showing in the bios of the server,
shut down the server, take out the power cable, press and hold the power button so as to realease flea power, open the server, and reseat the data cable at both ends and if there is another power cable available in the server swap it with the existing cable plugged into the scsi drive.

and now try to start your server.

Machine will not start

Did you swap out the RAM and/or CPU. Is this a heat related shutdown?

Dell server poweredge 1800 frequently shutdown

is there an error message that appears? can you check error logs? I need more information to be able to help you. I would first try to blow dust out of the fans, as it may be over heating, another possibility is that there is software on the machine that is causing it to shut down.
