Video card doesnt support directX

Recently i use microsoft power point 2010.
while worlong on it, my laptop gets restarted a couple of times. the error says: This problem occurred because your video card doesn't support the required version of DirectX. This version of Windows requires a video card that supports DirectX 9.0 or newer.

so what should i do now? change the video card? or buy an external video card? or what? thank you for your assistance. much appreciated.

First you won't be able to change the video card as it is built into the mainboard on a laptop. Howevere almost every card built for the last 15 plus years supports DirectX. What you are seeing is probably caused by not having directX installed at all.

If you go to www.microsoft.com search for directx 9 download. And then download the enduser runtime version. Install, reboot and this error should go away.

You cannot do that. You are limited by the VGA card built into your PC. To do what you want you will have to get a new laptop, (new to you,) and that MUST have DirectX 9 - 10 compatible. You cannot Upgrade a VGA card on a laptop, UNLESS it is removable, however it's actually the BIOS, that's the limiting factor, even if you could Upgrade VGA cards you would need the BIOS re-written to allow for it.

Is directX installed. How about flash and quicktime and also shockwave. You are almost certainly missing a fundamental necessity if all games are not starting

Please post your system specs and the full error message.

At what point does the error appear? Is it the same point each time?

Does your computer meet the game's minimum requirements (especially the graphics card)?

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers, graphics driver, DirectX and MS updates?

Have you made any hardware upgrades recently? __________________ roger

Direct X compatibility issue with new graphics card

Hi tom2badcat, the SIMS game is very picky when it comes to graphics cards. If you look on the SIMS box you'll find their recomended graphics card list. The video card you bought is a low end 8x AGP card. You can try downloading & installing directx 9.0c from microsoft. Click on this link;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9226a611-62fe-4f61-aba1-914185249413&displaylang=en
If directx 9.0c still fails to install the graphics card is at fault & you should return it. Listed below is a link. The link provides a couple 8x AGP graphics cards that will run both directx 9.0c & the SIMS expansion pack 2. (The graphic cards shown all use faster memory).
XFX cards carry a lifetime warranty. (No# Choice)
