Yes a bad ground on the radio side and antenna side will affect the how well you hear and transmitt. One thing you can do if its on the antenna side is grab it at the bottom around the mount....do you hear better,do you have better noise.

Why does my 91 ford econoline over heat when I turn my heat on?

I've been working a similar issue with a friends truck. When the heater blower motor is off the engine temperature gauge reads normal in the middle. But when you turn the blower motor on the gauge goes way up to the top. The engine isn't really overheating. There is an electrical problem that when you turn the blower on it is affecting the temperature gauge and making it go all the way up off-scale. So far we've found that the blower motor speed control resistor is bad. We replaced that and the speed control works now, except for the low speed setting. I suspect there is a bad ground somewhere and the bottom end of the resistor element isn't grounded anymore. As such too much current is going through the ground in the dash, which is affecting the gauge.

If just audio is missing my be Audio Chip i think IC3Bad Crystal or solder to it.May be bad PLL chip any of these 3 could affect both TX and RXI do not suspect mic as there would still be audio just at low volume on receive.

Rushing sound (noise) galaxy 88 HL

RUSHING SOUND ?
1. Get the noise then disconnect the coax and see if noise goes away on receive, if noise goes away then address the ground on your antenna,
if noise still there then address the ground wire from power source

Can not transmit

You'd be suprised how much a bad mic can affect your radio. Start by trying a friends 4-pin mic, or grab a cheapo one and try it. If its not the mic, then its time for some SWR tuning, the manual tells you how to do that. Its a very simple process to do, and once you learn the steps you'll go right through it like you've been doing it forever. If your mic is good, First I'd check my coax for any kinks or breakage. Problem is a lot of times you may have a bad coax and there isn't even a kink or bend anywhere, I've seen brand new ones that were bad. Then the ground where the antenna is mounted. Can you tell me if your using a mag mount antenna or a bracket?

Swr

Do you have an SWR meter? Are you sure that the connector that screws onto the radio is soldered properly? If the ground is touching the center wire then it will hear but not transmit very far.

You Need to check and set you SWR on the antenna system. You may also have a bad coax or the ant studs ( mounting hardward ) for the antennas may be bad. It definally sounds like an ant/coax problem Good Luck
