Question about Brother HL 1440 Laser Printer

My hl 1440 laser printer won't print anything, not even a test page. No error lights come on when this happens.

Is this printer directly connected to the computer? If yes, follow the instructions below:

1. You may need to start with power cycling the printer. Disconnect the printer from the computer and unplug the power from the wall socket. Leave it disconnected for 5 minutes.

2. Make sure that the printer is set as your default printer and the status is ONLINE.

* Control Panel > Printers > right-click the printer icon > select "Use printer online". If the option is use printer offline, meaning that the printer is currently online.

3. Clear all pending documents on the queue.

* Right-click the printer icon > cancel all documents.

4. Try to change the port.

* Right-click the printer icon > Properties > Ports tab.
* If the printer is set to USB001 Virtual Printer Port, set it to USB002...

5. Restart the printer spooler.

* Start > Run or Search > type "services.msc" (without quotes).
* On the services window, locate the "Print Spooler" and click on it.
* Then click on "Stop the service" and then click "Restart the service".

6. If same problem occur after doing these things, uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.

7. Last, contact a repair tech to see if there's a hardware problem.

Printer Won't Print


Follow the link below for what the lights on the machine mean. I know that if your alarm and data light are on it means the toner is empty, and you wont be able to print, you would need to replace the toner cartridge, please follow the link below.

Will not print anything..Stpped in the middle of 6 page job (after 4 pages) ..Solid red alarm light on, yellow data light, on. Will not even print test page


Your toner cartridge is empty. Time to replace it.

If you look at your manual for error codes or on the brother website they will show what what the various blinky lights are telling you.

If your printer have no paper jam inside and paper tray has paper in it, then you need to replace toner cartridge.

Brother HL-1440 LASER PRINTER requires ''Service Call A''.


currently, the error you have is not a service errorl, ready and alarm blink means that you have either a paper jam, no paper, or a paper misfeed.

do you get this error only when you try to print?
according to the service manual the lights can not alternate in blinking.

Hi , The error message your getting refers to the following for the Ready & Alarm Buttons Flashing.

1. Paper Jam
2. Misfeed
3. No Paper
