For the fan, brown usually hooks to the capacitor fan terminal and orange to the common terminal. For the compressor, purple usually hooks to the capacitor herm terminal

Turn the power off at the breaker panel and check for voltage present with a meter. write down what wires are hooked to H C and F then hook up the new one EXACTLY like the old. If you do not you can burn the winding on the condenser fan motor and this is more expensive than a capacitor.

I have a RUUD gas pack unit.....when you turn on the heat, the blower does not blow any air out of the vents while on "auto". If you put it on "on" it blows cold air out of the vents. What is wrong?

Sounds like the thermostat is hooked up wrong. If the ac doesnt work right its in the thermostat programming or the wiring. Hope this helps good luck

My Out side unit dosent always kick on I have already replaced capicator and contactors when it dosent come on all I do is tap on top of fan and it starts up what could cause this thanks Jim from. Tx

Control voltage wiring might be loose, if equipped with control board inside outside unit may have cracked terminals on control board. Also may have loose or defective pressure safety's if equipped.

We have a RUUD AC unit, model number UAMB-042JAZ. ...

Those are the low voltage wires from the thermostat and transformer. Yes he can just match up the colors and splice with wire nuts or something else to hold the tight. If the transformer got shorted out during any of this it may need to be replaced. Hook them up and if the unit runs, then no problem with the transformer.

Trying to change out my thermostat to a programmable one but the wire colors don't match up, what color wire does what on the Rudd Achiever series?? green/brown/yellow/white/blue

You should check the terminals where the other end is connected, there is no guarantee that the installer followed a wire color code. There should be a diagram in the HVAC unit. Normally, you have the power wire from the XFMR, a wire for the heat, a wire for the AC, and a wire for the fan.

Themostat problem no power

Your R terminal in your air-handler is the 24v power that goes to the tstat. Look at the air-handler and match the color wire. ALL tstats have a power wire going to them. If you aren't getting power, you probably have a break somewhere in the wiring close to the thermostat you are replacing.

Air conditioning unit

Have someone turn the thermostat to fan on. stand by the air handler. listen for a click. There is a fan relay or a stack switch both click when power is sent to them .
If you do hear a click that is good. should be good part.
No click means the relay or stack switch may be bad.
also look at the capicator. it's a little silver oblong or round component with 2 wires to treminals on the end. These wires are usually brown. The top of the capicator where the wires attach should be flat. if it is a little rounded the cap is bad.
If the cap is good and the relay is good.
SECURE POWER to the Air Handler. At the breakers
touch the side of the motor. BE CAREFUL it could burn.
touch lightly... if real hot motor is more than likely bad.
The Motor has the specks on the side of it. and can be read after the motor is removed.
Two screws must be removed to remove motor.
If you must disconnect wires to remove. write down where they connect and there colors Before disconnecting.
Good luck
