Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We have a rudd central air unit and the fan is not running. This happened before and the repairman said there was a reset type of switch, but I can't remember if it is on the outside or inside unit. Where would I find it?

Hello,

Check the remote of the rudd central air unit to see if there is any reset button there, if there is none on the remote.

The manual reset button should be on the outside unit, look around the outside unit carefully, there should be manual reset high pressure switch on the outer unit.

Take care

Central air conditoner outside unit

Well, the answer is yes. I have seen a bad capacitor cause a fan motor to run backwards. BUT..... After replacing the capacitor and WIRING it up the right way, everything should be fine. A lot of aftermarket condenser fan motors are reversible, so it can run counter-clockwise (CCW) or clock-wise (CW). However, most factory fan motors come one directional and on your specific unit, the air should always push out of the top. Running the unit with the fan going backwards will actually some-what do it's job, but damage other components like the compressor because it runs at higher operating pressures than what it is designed for.

Have someone else look at it! That's going to be the best advice I can give you. If they can prove that a capacitor caused the motor to permanently run backwards..... I want to know! Hope this helps and good luck with your unit.

My RUDD central a/c keeps cutting off, the inside vents still have air coming out of them but not cold. When I go to check the outside unit it is either completely off or running but the top fan is not...

The switch that you are resetting is the manual reset high pressure switch. It is there for a reason, to tell you something is wrong. You having to start fan manually tells me that the fan run capictor is bad. Get the capictor changed. If you keep resetting the switch you could burn out the compressor, doesnt make any sense to burn up a 800.00 compressor for a 10.00 item. hope this helps.

check for power at unit, as it may be the disconnect fuse/breaker. The only other thing is the main board, but it sounds like there is no power to the unit. I hope this helps Tim

Power failure unit went off of a rudd split unit

If he reset it on the outdoor unit, this could be a high
pressure switch located where the compressor is, which is attached to the refrigerant line.

Make sure your indoor unit operates by putting the fan to manual, if it operates your problem is not there.
Make sure your breakers have not tripped which should be located in an electrical panel in the house

Turn the thermostat as low as it will go and have someone stand out side, they should here the condensor fan and compressor come on at the same time. They are two distinctive sounds so you should
be able to tell if the compressor is running.

If nothing happens and you are skilled with electrical
you can turn power off and remove the electrical
cover to the outside unit. Restore power and carefully
push in the contactor, if the fan and compressor
starts you have a thermostat or low voltage problem.

If just the outdoor fan runs on any attempt, more than likely you need a new capacitor.

I don't think the fan on it' own crates the problem. Could you find out what should be and what actually is the flow through it. is the unit running outside? did you check the breaker? Ruud units often times will have a reset bitton on the outside unit to the left of where the freon lines connect. It is a high pressure switch if it comes on when reset make sure the coil is clean and the fan runs(outside)

Replace Rudd Achiever 10 ???

if the fan motor outside let go it could overheat the compressor which he should have known before he replaced the motor. also there is no way of knowing if there is enough freon in the system if the compressor does not start, your best bet is to get another repairman as a second opinion

I have a rudd central air unit. The fan on the outside of the unit is not running. What could be wrong?

First check that you didn't drop a leg from your power service.

If there's power to the fan and it's humming like it's trying to turn, then you could have a bad fan or bad start capacitor. Pull the disconnect and check to see that the fan spins freely and does not wobble on its axis, if so, the fan is most likely ok. Replace the start capacitor.

If there is no power going to the fan, then there are several different ways to go. Check the fan first.

RUDD A/C not running, only fan

ok it unit is a central I'm suspecting a voltage transformer is defective you see these units need 24v to turn on certain components but if your air handler turns on, your getting 24v to the fan relay, the problem would be elsewhere. if your handy with a volt meter open the thermostat(if applicable) put the meter on ac volts and measure to see if there's 24v between the R and Y terminals

if so your cooling contactor is defective. (If you get 24 v and unit outside dosen't turn on) if there isn't some fuse on the air handler control board blew out.

you can e-mail me @ hvac.tech7872pr@gmail.com if you need more info
