Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.

Good Luck, I hope this helped

Testimonial: "hunter 19_46m expert thank you for replying to my question by putting in new gas (even though the gas in it was good , put in a different brand) and letting it run seems to have corected the problem. although i did see a split in the priming bubble and replaced it also. than again for the help... vision158"

Need to find where air cleaner is ?

If your unit has one, it would be in front of the carburetor. Some Ryobis and Homelite trimmers do not have an air filter on them, just a screen inside the choke cover.

What is proper gas/oil ratio for homelite grass trimmer

Generally 2-cycle engines use ratios of 32:1 to 50:1. As a rule if you start with 40:1 you should be O.K. If your concerned that it might be to lean then start with 32:1 and if it smokes too much add 25% more gas to make it a 40:1 ratio.

My Homelite grass trimmer idles fine but when I open the throttle it stalls. How do I fix this?

Its sounds like it is running rich. Adjust your high speed adjustment screw. If the unit is older think about buying a carb rebuild kit, they run about $12.00 at your local fix it shop and if you are not in a hurry online for about $8.00 give or take S/H.

I have a practically new Homelite String Trimmer (model #UT20006 25cc) that has been sitting in the box in my mother-in-law's closet for over 3 years. It will start up like a charm. Fairly easy to crank in...

If all those items you mentioned are ok, then check the Air filter! If it's been sitting around, it may be plugged up or it may have insects that have built nests inside...
Also, there should be a fuel line back to the tank for pressurizing the system... Make sure the gas cap is tight, and the return line is snug in the tank.
