Have the same problem - lg 1630 just 4-5 months old and everything works except its not heating! Manf Date Dec 2007. Any solutions yet?

Same for me... I was able to exchange it for another microwave and am back in the same boat.

We've had our microwave for just over a year (past warranty date, unfortunately) and tonight the exact same problem occurred.  Turns on, lights go on as if it's cooking, but nothing heats up.  It sounds like some sort of fan is going off (maybe the vent?), which doesn't normally happen when it's working properly.

I've emailed LG but don't expect to hear back.  This is really frustrating b/c it took so damn long to install over the range!

Wondering if the cost of a repairman outweighs the $200+ we spent on it new.

    Any thoughts?

Same issues here, power up as usual, everything works except it doesn't heat. Usually when the magnetron kicks in, you know it because the unit bogs down from the load, well no bogging here just steady running of the fan. (Manufactured in 2007), do I detect a class action lawsuit in the works? I was fortunate enough to have purchased the extended warranty.

Repair man showed up day one with the most likely culprits (Magnetron & Diode), replaced them both and no help, there goes thanksgiving.

2 1/2 weeks later the tech showed up with a couple of (Micro Switches and a Thermostat), replaced those, ho help.

Now he suspects it the (PWB/PCB Power Control Board), because there isn't any power coming from the board to the tell the huge transformer to power up and sent the required voltage to the magnetron.
We will see when that is replaced if I'm back in business.

Just an FYI folks, if you're going to tinker with this use EXTREME CAUTION, as the transformer could put out upwards in the range of 4,000 volts, not to mention what the mag can do to you, so be SMART and be CAREFUL.

Third time is a charm, the tech replaced the (PWB/PBC) today and we have a winner. That was the problem, either the Power Control Board itself or one of the relays on the board. Replacement was free because it was under extended warranty, but still reasonably affordable at repairclinic dot com ringing in at about $60. So good luck.

Anyone perhaps know why my LG microwave LMV1683ST will not function with a new door assembly?

I hate to be the bearer or conduit of bad news, but IF the old (broken) door works, but the new door does not, the new door may not be the exact replacement part! Otherwise, the operation would be identical. Clearly, the problem is not with the microwave circuits because they work fine with the original door! Is there a flexible circuit strip that plugs to or from the door, to the control board in the main unit? If so, does it look any different than the original counterpart to it?

Typically, you have the first 30 days to exchange a new purchase. I would pursue that avenue. If you bought it online, it's probably freight related. Try to file a claim..

I have a JVM1850 White microwave-over the oven-installed 3 years ago. Last evening the unit would not turn off. The inside light and fan continued to run, however, the microwave was not working.

All the controls and functions seem to operate, but when completed, the unit remained working, as stated above, with the door opened or closed.

Microwave will heat v.slightly but will not cook

Make sure that the power level is on high. I'm guessing you already checked that. There is a malfunction in the microprocessor, the firmware in the EPROM, The Litz Coil (high voltage high frequency) or a bad Magnetron tube. Either way, unless it is a super high end MW, it is not worth repairing unless you can do it your self. If you have a volt meter I can go through some basic troubleshooting with you when you repost. This is high voltage stuff so be careful, eye protection, rubber gloves, no jewelry.

Everything works except heat

Sounds like you've had a failure in the microwave portion of the unit.

Microwave not heating problems when the timer/controller board appears to function properly, are related to the following components -

1) Diode
2) Capacitor
3) Transformer
4) Magnetron

Microwave will not cook

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
