Question about Consew Sewing Machines

Open Question

I have a Consew Blindstitch Machine Model 222. I can't seem to get it to sew correctly. I want to sew drapes-medium weight fabric. Is there such a thing as default settings to get me to a starting point of where I need to be with the settings?

How to do blindstitch hem with a pfaff 1035. I have the blind stitch foot

You need to also have a blindstitch stitch on your machine. It looks something like this:

-------V--------V--------V-------

The straight stitch segment is stitched on the hem fabric, but the V portion zags over and catches a couple threads in the fold on the wrong side of the garment fabric.

Thread on my consew 225 keeps balling the thread on the bottbottom

Sounds like bird nesting. The upper thread accumulates under the fabric creating a series of loops and knots.

First: Install a brand new needle and make sure it is installed facing the correct direction. (A new needle is the least expensive fix for most sewing machine issues.)

Second: Remove the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Make sure it is threaded correctly (consult the owner's manual).

Third: Pull up the bobbin thread through the fabric and gently hold the thread tails in your left hand while slowly taking the first couple of stitches.

My singer futures XL 400 won't sew underneat

If the stitch problem is on top, it is a bobbin problem, and if it is on the bottom, then it is a problem with the top.
Try rethreading your machine completely. Make sure that the tension is set correctly.
If rethreading doesn't work, then try adjusting your tension, a little at a time, till you can find something that works.
If none of the above works, try changing your needle to a fresh one. And do your sample stitching on a medium weight fabric. Very sheer fabrics can be problematic without sewing machine problems. Good luck with your machine!

Borrow sewing machine from sister unsure how to thread it correctly and when i do the thread fromthe needle keeps breaking when i try to sew its a brother XL-5130 sewing machine and i know nothing on how...

you need to go to this webpage http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us_ot/en/doc/manual_index.html?reg=us&c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=hf_xl5130eus&dlid=&flang=English&type2=-1 and download the instruction manual for this model. It has the threading up instructions plus selecting stitches, winding a bobbin etc.

The thread breaking is most likely due to incorrect threading up of the top thread. I suggest that if you can, you print out the manual, put into a little folder and place beside the machine and refer to it often. Follow the instructions in it on winding a bobbin, putting it into the bobbin case correctly and threading up the top thread. Make sure the bobbin goes into the case the correct way, as per image.

Remember, ALWAYS THREAD UP TOP THREAD WITH THE PRESSURE FOOT RAISED, this keeps the tension discs open so the thread can seat into the tension device correctly. And you must get the bobbin thread into the tension spring fully and then place the bobbin case into the shuttle using the little latch so it stays in place.

Also, new needle for every new project, and put the needle in "flat shank to the back". It will take standard domestic sewing machine needles 705/130H but it is important to select the correct sized needle for the fabric you are sewing so that the needle can penetrate the fabric but not leave big holes. So for light weights like chiffon you want a size 60 or 70. For medium weights a size 80 and for heavy fabric like denim or a coat weight wool you would use size 100. Ball points for stretch fabrics so that the needle pushes between the fibres and a regular point for woven fabrics.

I trust this helps you out, 4 thumbs up if so. Thank you.

I have a sewing machine-single needle model 03914, but I don't how to put the needle for delicate fabric and for thick fabric?

Use size 60 for very fine (chiffon), size 70 for light weights like voile and cotton, 80 or 90 for medium weights such as a broadcloth, size 100 for denim and size 110 for something very heavy like a thick curtain or upholstery weight fabric. If you aren't sure what size to use, try pushing a needle into the fabric you are going to sew with your fingers, if it goes in easily and the hole it leaves is not noticeable then it is okay, if it leaves a big hole, then go down a size. If you use a needle that is too small on a fabric, then it is going to go blunt quickly or break.

good info here http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/Needle-Sizes.--94.htm on needle sizes.

I have a consew 230 and it is gathering on the bottom how do i ajust it

Pull the bobbin thread as it comes through the machine. Does it feel too tight? if so check the threading. if threaded correctly and still too tight back off small tension screw 1/2 turn at a time. see if that helps. carefull not to undo too far as the small screw will come right out and may be difficult to put back. This machine is for heavy, stiff fabric. If you're using thin fabrics, stop right there make no adjustment. You'll need a lighter machine. This is for upholstery and leather work. Even curtain/drape fabric may be too light. Thats the best I can do without seeing the machine.

What is the size of the needle used in the white superlock 1934D

This is a very highly regarded serger. Check out the reviews on http://sewing.patternreview.com if you're interested--but they are all extremely positive.

I also checked out the White Sewing Machine site--the three sergers they currently sell all use regular sewing machine needles.

Based on what I read on both sites, I believe your machine also uses regular sewing machine needles (not all sergers do, BTW). To be absolutely certain, you can call the White Help Line (l 800-331-3164, Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM, EST).

If your serger uses regular sewing machine needles, then the size of the needle depends on the type of fabric you're sewing. Sizes 8 to 10 for lightweight fabrics, 12 to 14 for medium weight fabrics, and 16 to 18 for heavy weight. Use ballpoint needles for knits, jeans needles for denim, and universal needles or sharps for woven fabrics.

I have a baby lock ea-605 serger

Assuming that (a) you have tried installing new needles, (b) the new needles are the correct system for the serger and the right size (typically size 14 for medium-weight fabrics, size 11 for lighter-weight fabrics), (c) the needles are installed correctly (inserted all the way up into the needle bar and facing the proper direction), then your machine is likely out of time and / or has a defective part such as an upper / lower looper. That will require professional attention to correct.

The material gathers when i sew

Rethread the machine from the spool to the needle. All machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.
You need to be sure your tension is working correctly. Adjust the tension to 9 and pull the thread. It should be hard to pull. adjust the tension to 2 and it should pull much easier. If it works as described, then adjust the tension to 4 and your stitch length to 2.5 and try it on some medium weight fabric.
If you are sewing on light weight fabric set your stitch length to 1.5 or 2. You may even have to reduce the tension to less than 4. You can reduce the tension until you see loops on the bottom of the fabric at which point you should tighten the tension to remove the loops.
