Try clearing the cache

If your Xbox 360 console can't play multiple game discs, try clearing your system cache. Here's how:

  1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Memory.
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
  4. Select Clear System Cache.

I have a 120 gb hard drive on my XBOX 360.I have put almost 500 albums on my hard drive. For some reason I can't load anymore CD's onto my hard drive. It shows that it's "ripping" but it never does...

Please check how much more space you have left. a regular cd can hold up to 700 mb. 700 mb times 500 albums is about 300 gb. So your problem could be that you ran out of space. if this is not the case clarify how much space you have left

The x box says system update stopped..what has happened? how do i fix it?

Came across a link that might be of some use to you, here's what it says:

Get Updates for Your Xbox 360 Console There are three ways to get updates for your Xbox 360 console:
Update through Xbox LIVE. Copy update to a USB Flash Drive. Burn a DVD or CD. Update through Xbox LIVE
Getting the update free on Xbox LIVE is the best option because your console will be automatically updated as new system software is released.
To update your Xbox 360 console on Xbox LIVE, you must have an Xbox LIVE account with either a Gold or Silver membership, and a broadband Ethernet connection.
To update on Xbox LIVE: Connect your Xbox 360 console to your broadband connection. If your console is not connected already, see Connect to Xbox LIVE. Note Your console will be restarted when you join Xbox LIVE, so be sure to save your game progress. Create an Xbox LIVE membership or add one to your offline profile, if you haven't already. Go to the Marketplace area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Join Xbox LIVE. Follow the steps for creating a profile. You can also add an Xbox LIVE membership to an existing profile by selecting Join LIVE from the Xbox LIVE area of the Xbox Dashboard. You may be asked to update the software on your console. Select Yes and wait for the update to finish. Future updates will be installed automatically, as long as you are signed into Xbox LIVE. Copy the Update to a USB Flash Drive
If you don't have an Xbox LIVE account or have a slow Internet connection, using a USB flash drive is a good option.
Note: The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.
Update using a USB flash drive:
Connect your USB flash drive to a USB port on your computer. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate9199.zip" anywhere on your computer. Unzip the File. Copy the contents from the unzipped folder onto the root of your flash drive. Safely remove the flash drive from your computer and plug it into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console. If your console is on, turn it off, then back on. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now. When you see the new dashboard, you're done. Burn a DVD or CD
Your other option is to download a file from Xbox.com and burn a DVD or CD. Use this method if you don't have your console connected to broadband, or if you use a dialup connection to the Internet. You could even do this at a friend's house who has a broadband Internet connection and a DVD or CD burner.
To create an update disc you need the following:
A DVD or CD burner. A blank, writeable DVD or CD. The update file from Xbox.com. This procedure involves burning the DVD or CD by using Microsoft Windows DVD or CD burning software. If you're using third-party CD/DVD writing software, follow the instructions for creating a data disc.
The same steps apply whether burning a CD or a DVD.
To create a DVD or CD:
Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate9199.zip" anywhere on your computer. Place a blank disc in your burner. From Windows Explorer, select Open Writable CD Folder Using Windows Explorer or open the CD drive icon. Open (double click) the zipped $SystemUpdate.zip folder and drag the contents of the zipped folder to the root of the CD Folder. If the CD write window doesn't open by default, drag and drop the folder onto the CD/DVD RW drive. Note If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to open the file using a separate utility (for example, WinZip). In the Explorer window, click Write files to CD from the CD writing tasks or right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD. Caution The update filename and folder structure must be intact for the update to run properly. Follow the steps in the CD wizard. When you are finished with the wizard, the CD will eject. Your CD is ready. To update the console:
Place the CD in the Xbox 360 console.
Power cycle the Xbox 360 console. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now and press A. Wait for the update to complete. When the console reboots, you're done. If this does not work then you need to sand your xbox in to microsoft.
Keep Checking Daily for the new update.

My old xbox says that it does not recognize the xbox game as an xbox game

Your CD drive is bad. You can find a replacement online at ebay for cheap. Once you have it, unscrew the star screws on the bottom of console (under each rubber foot, and under the silver sticker) to remove the top cover (whole thing comes off) to reveal the guts. Simply unplug the cables that are in your current CD drive, remove the housing screws, remove drive, replace with new drive, and reverse the process. :D

Can't upload a CD on my xbox

If you have the (fall update), you should have that option. When you put a game in make sure it isn't on auto-play. Under the play game box, the option to download to hard drive is the Y button. To burn normal music CD to your hard drive you will have to go to music, then current disc. There is no option for downloading an MP3 disc though. The console will only play MP3's. I hope this helps you friend.

Xbox keeps freezing up

The old black xboxes had trouble with the aging cd drive. There are only 2 things that can be wrong with it. 1. The IR laser lens has become dirty. This is particularly common in households with smokers, but it is possible with typical use as well. This fix invovles taking the xbox apart, taking the top off of the cd drive and finding what looks like a small contact lense in the middle of the drive. Dip a q-tip in windex or alcohol and then flick it with your finger to remove excess liquid. Then, you can VERY GENTLY wipe across the lense with VERY LITTLE pressure. Wipe across the lens a couple of times and you should be good. If that doesn't fix it, there is a worm gear that moves the laser eye back and forth to read the CD. If that worm gear is not well lubed or dirty enough to be stopped consistantly at the same place it would duplicate yoiur problem exactly. You will want to get electronic gear lube from your local electronic supply dealer. Ask them for white grease. Radio shack will not have this grease. Apply the grease to the worm gear fairly lightly. There is no need to smother it and smothering the gear with grease is likely to just attract more dirt and therefore more problems.  In either case, put the top back on the cd drive before testing it as the laser is an eye hazard.  If you can find a replacement cd drive that might work too. If all else fails take your xbox to gamestop and get some trade-in value for it so you can buy the newer version. Good Luck!!

Hey Jay- There is a plastic disc that sits on the centre of the drive inside the box, this disc has a magnet in it that is supposed to hold the game cd in place. What's happened is the plastic has become dislodged from the computer drive and is not the magnet portion is stuck to the drive housing (also metal).

You need to open up the game console, remove the drive and the drive cover and get that plastic disc out of it's holding plate. Once out, you just reinsert the drive (without the cover) and set the disc on top of the game cd-give the game a spin or two with your fingers and it should start up....problem fixed

If you search on Youtube you can see a repair video for this. It takes time, and you have to tear apart the game to get at this puppy. I've since fixed mine and left the plastic game housing off as well, so as to get rid of the overheating problem.

Screw microsoft and their crappy manufacturers.
