Bad motor or capacitor. The grinding suggests bearings in the motor.

I have a 6 year old Rudd heat pump. The AC would run for a while and the compressor would shut down until I pushed the reset button. An AC contractor came out and looked at the unit and bypassed the reset...

The reset button that he is talking about is probally the high pressure manual reset. There are reasons that this can trip.
1. Dirty condensor. 2. Condensor fan motor not up to par. 3. A liquid line dryer that is partially blocked. 4. A metering device that is not feeding right. If he verified all these and it still tripped maybe a bad switch. Anyways, with it bypassed what ever problem that is causing it to trip is still there and will get worse and the compressor will burn up and he will come and put in a brand that he likes. Hope this helps.

We have a Kitchen Aid Electric stove about 10 years old and there was no owners manual left from the last owner. This week we turned on the oven and there is no heat from the elements on both the bake and...

The first thing I would check is the breaker for the oven at the breaker box. I have encountered similar problems and a partially thrown breaker ( or one pole of a double-pole breaker) can cause this. Find your "range breaker" in your breaker box and cut it off then flip it back on. There is a good chance that might fix your breaker. If it is an older house with fuses, then the range would be on two fuses and one of them is blown. This happens to dryers also (if the right fuse/breaker goes, the motor runs but it won't heat)
Hope this helps

I have a 20 year old RUDD Heat Pump, model UPFB-036JAS. The outside unit does not come on. I changd the contactor, but that did not fix the problem. I have a multi meter now and the contactor does not have...

Can you trace the voltage from the main, thru the fuses, and to the top of the contactor?
If you have voltage at the bottom of the fuses, (Usually indicating the fuses are OK)-- where is the voltage interrupted, before it gets to the input of the contactor?

To be sure the fuses are good, have you measured them (removed!) with your Ohm Meter?-- are they less than 1 ohm resistance? (Open fuses will be Infinite ohm).

Tell us more about the Voltages, and your tracing them out.

I own a Maytag Atlantic that is only blowing cold air no matter what cycle I set it in also when I open the door the light is not turning on, could this be related and what the causes may be?

Hi,

Check the blown fuses and home’s circuit breaker tripped. Dryer use 2 household Fuses or a circuit breakers, If one is blown, the dryer may still operate but not heat. Alternatively, the dryer may heat, but it may not heat up as hot as it should. Replace the Fuses or reset the circuit breaker.

Another common cause of a dryer failing to heat is a faulty Heating Element. You will need to replace it.

Good Luck and have a nice day.

Make sure front of dryer is not blocked, Air Flow is needed to dry. Check that the lint filter and exhaust duct is clean.

The furnace wont turn on even though it says it is

not all digital thermostats are compatible with the manufacturers circuit control boards in the furnace. Hunter has had this problem several years ago. Other than that you may have miss wired the unit. usually the furnace is used as backup heat (during defrost) or emergency heat if your heat pump konks out. Are you switching to emergency heat for a furnace call?

No heat

Try testing the voltage across both fuses. The time you swapped fuses, and the motor ran without heat indicates to me that one of your hot leads is not getting voltage. On a three wire system, you should have two 110v leads and a common. Make sure that the cord is connected properly, and the same for the receptacle that you plug into. Test the receptacle as well for proper voltage and a good common ground.
Hope that this helps. Please repost if necessary.....Operators are standing by......!

Heat Pump/Furnace Trip Circuit Breaker

My system will run for a short period and then suddenly trips the circuit breaker in the main panel for the heat pump.

I have a Goodman - 3 ton system about 8 - 9 yrs old. I'm being told that I need to replace the heat pump/air conditioner compressor?

What do you think?
