Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

We have a floor furnace made by Ward Heater Company Model 35 HM 35,000 Input BTU/25,000 Output BTU. Serial# B22403 (yes, it's an old Dog but saved our bacon a couple times when the electric went out!) We are looking for a place to get parts, as every time we need to light it; we have to disassemble most of the top portion to use screwdrivers & pliers to get it going! Also, the ''glass that covers the pilot light is broken (wasn't glass, but some kind of film) Is this dangerous in that the fumes will escape up into the house?

SOURCE: Is it possible to find parts for old Coleman floor

Dear Sir,
That glass inspection cap is not made anymore, and it is very dangerous to operate with out one in place. Many people are in the same spot as you are.
I have had success working with glass companies, they can make a glass piece out of glass that can withstand high heat, it is time consuming and expensive, so you will have to shop around, but it can be done, but not for cheap.
Those old floor furnaces can heat so nice, Just for the information these floor furnaces are still being made, though they heat a bit differently as they don't get as hot, just a new code put into place, to keep children from burning thier little feet.
"Cozy" is one of the new manufactures.
I hope I have answered your questions.
Sincerely,
Paul Gibson

Usually these numbers on most other untits are stamped on a metal plate which is located
or attached to the gas valve, which would also give the BTU Input/Output. Probably the
Model Number as well

Where can we get a thermo coupler for a floor furnace Ward Model 570EDR.

Most floor furnaces use the millivolt gas valve and need a pilot generator to operate correctly. These generators are bit more than a standard thermocouple.

Ebay has one for less than $20

We have an old furnace. Model # em50743b Serial #55673 45k - 65k BTU Piloit stays lite. Very low flame when furnace kicks on...then humming noise begans and gets louder. Now will not come back on.

Hi,

That sounds like your gas valve went bad...

If it is very old you may have a very hard time finding a replacement for it...
depending on the configuration of the gas train you may be able to update to a newr valve but then maybe not...

You may have to get a new furnace...

I have the Model number and serial number but am unable to find the BTU's on mty furnace...Help please?

if you have the model number of the furnace, then you have the btu input of the furnace. The model number usually starts with letters, then the three numbers following the letters are usually the btu input of the furnace.

For instance if it said 075 then it would have an input rating of 75,000 btu/hr or if it said 125 then it would have an input rating of 125,000 btu/hr.

Hope this helps

I'm considering installing a Goodman LP Gas Furnace:sizing? Ops?

Gerge, if you go to website www.energycodes.gov
you can do a heat load calc yourself. Basically, you figure out the sizes of walls, total area of glass. total doors to outside, ceiling area and types of building materials used. It is pretty easy and then you will know for sure. The contractor should be suppling you with one but if not use this, it is free!

I remeber we took out a Coleman kero heater out of my grandmothers mobile home. Just had it repaired but she wanted a new unit. Would have to go and check to see how many BTU's it is and also to see if the book is there as well.

Ward Heater Company M0021

These old units have a simple gas valve and a separate regulator. Your best bet may be to replace the gas valve to something more modern. Trouble shooting this most likely be a waste of time, as parts probably aren't available, other than the thermostat. by-pass it, (connect the 2 wires together) and see if it comes on. The blower shouldn't stop the burner to come on. Sounds like the gas company doesn't want to crawl under there to light it.
