ok so volume, channel, input all work fine. So what is the x sus, where is it located and what does it look like. could it be a defective y or z sus board as well. how about the buffer boards. can you send me a service manual for this model if possible. thanks

ok I don't see a x sus board on my model. where do I look. I see the power, y & z sustainer boards. y uppper and lower buffer boards. main input board, logic board and the 2 long boards that go at the bottom.

  • Ahmose Avin
    Ahmose Avin May 07, 2010

ok so the board you showed me is listed as the z sus board with the 3 ribbon connections on it. My tv set only has 2 ribbons on it. It has no middle ribbon in it. can that be the problem. my board has 3 connectors but the tv only has 2 ribbons.

  • Ahmose Avin
    Ahmose Avin May 07, 2010

ok, The old board only had 2 connectors on it and the tv has only 2 ribbons. this new board has 3 connectors and I think that might be the problem. Can I de solder the middle connector. will that make it work.

The problem you have mentioned indicates either one of the sustain boards are faulty or its the logic control board. Since you have replaced the y and z sustain boards its gotta be the X-sus or the logic control board. Here's how you can isolate the faulty one.
The logic control board is also responsible for performing different functions(when you press the buttons on your remote or on the front panel). Verify that all the other functions such as volume, Channel up/down, mute on/off etc., are working correctly. If they are then it is guaranteed that its the sustain board. This is the reason why I tell people to get the sustain boards checked by a tv tech before replacing. Special devices are required to check for voltage drops in the hv circuits of the sustain boards and that will help them determine which one it is so that you don't have to buy parts in trial and error method.

There are 3 sustain boards in your tv X-sus, Y-sus and Z-sus. The sustain boards are responsible for producing a picture on the tv. The part number of X-sus board is LJ92-01398A. Sorry I have looked for a service manual in my collection but I could not find one. You may be able to purchase one online from stores like tradebit.com, No it can't be buffer boards. The symptoms look different ex: You will have dark vertical lines or the screen is black etc.,

The chassis is designed in such a way that only that particular board can go into a particular spot.
So unless you have made adjustments to fit the boards in a slot, that is highly unlikely.

    eagle338 May 06, 2010

Look for the one with the matching part number(from my last post). That should help you find it.

Most likely. Can I see a pic of it so that we can confirm?

I do not recommend tampering with the board. It is possible that you have got a different version of the board than the one you have in your tv. The best thing for you will be to have a qualified tech test the sustain boards for high voltage drops and proceed accordingly.

A service manual would be a good way to get started. I have looked through my collection and I don't seem to have one for this model so you may have to get one online on sites like tradebit.com .

I have a 50in vizio hdtv20a and the amber light is on in the corner but it will not power up

The number one reason for this is failed YSUS board EAX37106201 . There are two ICs on it and one of them shorts, preventing the TV to power on.

The second most common reason is failed power board EAY32929001. There are several different things that can happen on it, but the first I'd look for if I were you is visually swollen electrolytic capacitors on the board. Look that up on Google and you'll see plenty of pictures of what to expect.

The third reason would be a bad ZSUS board EAX34042701 / EBR37284601 . Same as with the YSUS, only this is less common and, this one can actually be tested really easy by disconnecting the ZSUS from power and trying to power on the TV again. If it does come on (even with blank screen) then it's the ZSUS that is bad.

You can and should do the same with the YSUS, but it will only work if the ZSUS gets power directly from the power board and NOT through the YSUS board. I am not sure how they were on P50HDTV20A in particular, but in those models usually the ZSUS gets power through the YSUS and thus if you disconnect YSUS from power you automatically disconnect ZSUS as well, which is not good for tests as the power board needs load on the Vs line.

Well...hope that helped...don't forget to rate it if it did!

TV is dead. Power light is not illuminated. Checked all plugs and outlets.

It sounds like your power supply has failed. This could be caused by bad capacitors in the power supply itself, or it could be caused by some other circuit board, likely the Y-sustain or Z-sustain board, or both.

This solution assumes you feel comfortable working on the tv yourself - if not, it will need to be fixed by a service technician.

Begin by removing the back cover. You'll need to take out all the screws that have an arrow pointing at them. You'll only need to remove the large cover, not the smaller one where the audio/video connections are located. Put the screws in a plastic sandwich bag so they don't get lost.

The power supply board is in the center top area. Check the tops of all the capacitors. They should all be flat. If any of them are bowed out or deformed then you have a bad power supply board that will need to be replaced, or replace the caps if you're capable. If the caps look ok then check the fuse at the bottom right of the power supply board. Go to the appropriate paragraph below.

1) IF THE FUSE IS GOOD: you likely have a problem with one of the sustain boards. Unplug the connectors on the Y Sustain (Ysus) that sit between the two fuses. Plug in the tv and see if the power supply board comes up. If it does you'll hear a click and see the green light on the front begin flashing. This indicates one or both of the sustain boards has failed.

To determine which board has failed, reconnect the Ysus connector from the power supply and disconnect the connector at the top left of the Zsus board. Try turning on the tv. If the power supply comes up then you have a problem with the Zsus board. If it doesn't come up you have a problem with the Ysus board and/or the Zsus board. The power for the Zsus board is routed through the Ysus board, so if the Ysus board is bad you won't be able to check the Zsus board.

Many blogs recommend replacing both if one is bad because they're both high failure items, and replacing one without the other means you may have to go back and replace the other after a short while.

2) IF THE FUSE IS BAD: You may have a problem with the power supply board. Check the caps for any deformed tops. If so, you'll have to replace the board or the caps, depending on your skill level. After making the replacement, disconnect the power to the Ysus and verify you have a good power supply board.

Picture went black but you could still hear the movie

Hi- My PL4260N stopped working after about three years, the audio worked but no video at all. The TV worked fine until one day...no more picture.
I found out that the YSUS and ZSUS boards in the TC fail alot...BUT you can get new or repaired ones off of EBAY...
First check for failed components (burned, loose, bulging, etc.) if nothing obvious is failed then check the fuses on the YSUS, ZSUS, and power supply boards...usually if a board has a blown fuse the board needs to be replaced...get the part number and search it in Google and eBay and you will find options for replace/repair.
Mine had a blown fuse on the YSUS board...I got it fixed for $75 through coppell TV (they are on Ebay)....
Now my TV works fine again!
Good luck.

Have sound. But no picture

The Zsus and Ysus Board are common failures. It is a possibility that the Plasma Panel also is the problem. If you take the back off, (make sure unplug the set first), the board on your left is the Zsus and is marked accordingly. The Ysus is on the right of the Power supply. Look for fuses being open on the Zsus Board and Power Supply using a ohm meter. If they are, I would replace both Zsus and Ysus. They seen to fail together many times. If the fuses are good. I would suspect the Plasma Panel.
I hope this helps,

The Zsus and or the Ysus boards are common failures. You can unplug the Zsus board from the power supply and if the power stays on, I would replace both the Zsus and Ysus boards.

42 ilo plasma tv went pop no picture, but sound and all other settings work.

Most likely YSUS or ZSUS board. If you have any picture at all (very dark & cloudy) that would be the ZSUS. If no picture at all, then it is the YSUS. A secondary problem with these is that you generally have to replace the YSUS and Y-driver(s) at the same time.

I have a lg 42pc3dv plasma tv. it made a loud pop

Looking at it from the back, the board on the left is the ysus. You should see a big red cable coming from the power supply board in the middle of the set going to the ysus. Near the red cable plug on the ysus should be a fuse. Most likely the fuse has blown. If it is you need a ysus PCB. Check out encompassparts.com. If you get a new board be sure to set all the controls on the new board to match the old board. If you don't you will have little sparkles all over the screen when it comes back on. I hope this helps. You may want to check all fuses on the power supply and the zsus which is on the right side of the set. I have seen both the ysus and zsus be bad together. Good luck and thanks.

How to change lamp in toshiba 42hp66?

This TV is a plasma according to the model number you've posted. It does not use a lamp.
If the plasma does not show any picture, there might be a defective Ysus, Zsus or power suppy board.
There is a high failure rate on the Ysus and Zsus boards.
Search for a Ysus and Zsus board on google and you should find them.
Good Luck.
