This is a 2006 model that is a DLP type set. The way this set works is the lamp used for a light source shines a light into the optical light engine which processes the entire picture and a lens on top of the engine puts the image into a a mirror that reflects it onto the screen of the set.

The light engine consists of a series of baffles and lens and gets rather hot.

There is in my view only ONE possible reason for the problem here, I have seen it before in these sets----

You have a damaged (burnt inside) Optical light engine and no individual parts are sold or available for it. It can only be purchased as a complete unit and what it really means is the set is not worth fixing.

The part retails for almost 500 dollars and the current part number is:

Part NumberBP91-02061C

These are sold on an exchange basis and priced high enough to deter most people from even considering the replacement of the part.

Most of the ones I fixed were either under Mfr. or extended warranty.

Let me know please if you have any questions or need more help.

I am sorry to give you bad news but it is what you have wrong.

Have whoever did that come back as it may be a bad engine or related to the replacement of the engine.

I presume you did get a warranty on the work. You have been trying to get this fixed since early May?

Ok, this is more than likely your "Light Engine" I have included a couple of Samsung fixes in that case. Please use these service manuals, to troubleshoot and repair. http://www.scribd.com/doc/22235534/Hitachi-Training-Manual-Projection-Television-DLP-1
This link above is whats called a training manual, this is what is used to teach the engineers to service troubleshoot and repair these types of sets. Although not for your exact make model, they are all very similar.

HI:
This is due to a bad mirror tunnel, the shadow you are seeing is the result of one of the small mirrors on the mirror tunnel has fell off or has come loose from its mounting. The mirror tunnel can be replaced but special tools are required to realign the screens height and size, Or you can purchase a rebuilt Optics engine which comes with a new mirror tunnel/colorwheel/optics etc.. A good place to check for rebuilt Light Engines is www.tristatemodule.com.

This is not the DMD chip that is wrong with your set, Its the mirror tunnel. when DMD chips go bad you get stuck pixels on the screen as some of the mirrors on the DMD chip is not funtioning correctly. I was trained by Samsung reguarding this perticular problem, they use to just ship us a new light enging, but decided that the problem was repairable in the field and traind us on changing the mirror tunnel assembly. Do not replace the DMD chip this is not your problem the system you see is a gray shadow on the right side with picture still in the background right.

If the pattern is the same on all inputs then the problem can have 2 causes:
1 - in the DMD unit something is wrong with the mirror chip. And since it cannot be fixed you will have to replace it - it will be expensive.
2 - the image processor is faulty, it can't be replaced by itself, replace the entire board.

5 inch wide blue vertical stripe on lcd

It can be but rarely the main board, most of these sets have either one or two boards that drive the image on the screen, different names like T-con or Y out etc. the right side board could be the problem or a bad connector or ribbon cable for that side of the screen unit.

Several possible cures and none are a snap to find in most cases.

About $600.00 to replace. That's why manufacturers stopped making DLP sets because longevity is horrible. 5 yrs MAX if your lucky.

Red lines on right hand side of the screen now no picture on right hand side!

I'm not an expert, but I have determined that the vertical bars that are often red, sometimes blue ... and sometimes both ... are related to a bad control board. I've also read that a common fix is to buy a repair kit with includes the ysus, zsus and control boards ... all replaced together. My experience was that after a month or two with the 1.5" wide stripes, that you eventually loose the entire picture and have sound only. MIne comes back, but won't stay working for very long and the stripes are always there (buy used to fade and flicker sometimes). I'm planning on replacing the control board.

Dark vertical lines on tv screen

If under warranty then of course use that.
This is a display problem. One solution someone knowledgeable in electronics can try.
This problem can be caused by a bad connection fitting of the flat cables on LCD controller board. Dis-connect the flat cables from the LCD controller(T-CON) and carefully reconnect them. Try the unit before reassembling the back cover. You may have to disconnect/reconnect several times to show improvements if this is the problem.
