Camera is frozen in the open position. New battery does not help. Power button or picture view button will not help restore functions.

Hi,

There are a number of things you can try:

1. Ensure batteries
are fully charged

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries
and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refit

If no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...

5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..

6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...

7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the camera

If problem Persist, you need to Send the Unit for Repair.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

As soon as I turn it on, it shuts back off

Kodak offered no help with this problem and for my camera more than five years old no repair option was available. However, after thinking about this problem a solution was found. Perfectly charged old batteries and new batteries fully charged did not correct the problem. Here is what worked for me: With fully charged battery installed, place closed camera on EasyShare-One camera dock. With the the green light flashing, simultaneously depress both the power on/off button and the shutter button. With both these buttons held down, toggle the capture view switch from an intial down position to up, and then down position. Now release both the power on/off button and the shutter button simultaneously. This whole process takes about 20 seconds. Let the camera remain on the dock until the green light stops flashing. Remove the camera from the dock, open the camera back as usual and the screen will present you with date/time setup. Enter the date and time as required, hit the 'done' icon with the camera pen and the camera will now function normally. Why this works is speculative. However, the idea behind this method is to force a 'reboot' to factory settings by maximising conflicting electronic input signals.

The only functioning modes are the picture viewing & set up modes

Have Sony DSC-P73 with exact problem. Only turns on in SETUP mode and when switches to all other modes camera shuts off usually with lens extended. Have tried new batteries - new memory stick - new everything and nothing helped. I just took out the batteries and attached the AC ADAPTER and all works perfectly now so problem is with either batteries - battery compartment or battery connections. As long as you do not need a "PORTABLE" camera, using AC Adapter solves this problem :)

Camera Frozen

Hi,

I tried Option No.1 successfully when my Panasonic DMC-FZ7K froze once:

Option No1:

1. Try turning the camera on with the battery inserted.

2. Now remove the battery while the camera is on.

3. Flip the switch on the camera to off, then insert a fully charged battery. (Make sure that the battery's orientation is correct. Also make sure that the battery being used is not damaged).

4. Now flip the camera's switch to ON again.
------------------------------------------------------------
Option No. 2:

If you can open the Setup menu then the camera can be reset which might help:

Turn on the camera.

1. Press MENU SET.

2. Press the left arrow button.

3. Press the down arrow button.

4. Press the right arrow button.

5. Now, press the up arrow button several times until the menu item named RESET is highlighted. Push the right arrow button and then select and set YES when the camera asks to be reset.

Camera is "frozen"

Use a card reader, in case you cannot connect the camera to the PC, and download all card contents into the PC. Use a known good card on the camera, see if there's any difference. You can also format your old card, just make sure you don't do it in a different format that will later cause you more trouble. When the camera was stored for 6 months, did it have batteries in it? Check for corrosion on the contacts, and try cleaning if there is any. you can use a pencil eraser, just make sure to clean all the pieces. Hope you work it out
