Olympus ws-110 no playback when connected to pc

My operating system is windows xp media center. When I plug the dvr into a usb port the os recognizes it and assigns a driver. In Windows Explorer I can see all of the folders on the dvr. The files are recorded on the device as wma files. When I try to play the files (in Windows Media Player version 11) I can see all of the files listed in the pane. The player shows that it's playing, but no sound comes out. The files only play for a matter of seconds although they might be several minutes (20-40) long. Then the file stops and moves on to the next one yielding the same result. I have no error messages anywhere. Device manager shows that the device is working properly. All of the audio codecs are there. I contacted Olympus tech support. The rep couldn't help. I emailed one of the files to him, and he said it played fine on his computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael Washington

This worked! I got the files to play. I rolled back to Wmp version 10. However, now the files play at like double speed or something. I even went to slow speed on Wmp and I'm still getting Alvin and the Chipmunks. I erased all of the files from the DVR on my pc and tried to play them directly from the DVR. Same thing. When I click on view--statistics on Wmp while the file is playing I'm told that the recording was at 32 kbps. I recorded another file at 8 kbps and it still is playing at super speed.

HI,

There are two ways to fix this problem:

1)Uninstall WMP11 and download other version of Wmp say 10 or 9.
You can download that from HERE

2)Use other player like Real media player or VlC player these two are the best.
You can download Real player from HERE
You can download Vlc Player from HERE

Goodluck,

This problem occurs due to invalid codecs installed on the system.
make re-install of media player and try.

Well, you dont have any issues there. its a codec problem. all you need to do is:

try to install k-lite mega codec pack which you can download at there site.

or here

Ahh...that sounds like a player issue..open your settings on WMP and look to see that it's not on sample mode

Cannot transfer VN-4100pc files to PC

Well ive been having the same problem and managed to solve it on my own because olympus isnt very much help.

Im using window 7 at the moment. I had all their drivers and software that they claimed was needed but the real fix was going into device manager when the DVR is plugged in, right clicking the DVR and click on update drivers. Select the option for it to search automatically online and once it has completed, open up "digital wave player" and the device should show that it's connected. Transfering and viewing files can now be done.

This worked for me, hope it helps others aswell.

Olympus Voice Recorder WS100

The recorder is not provided with any installation software. It is considered a plug and play device and should connect to Windows XP or Windows Vista and display as a removable disk drive. You can then copy and paste the files from that drive to your hard drive. The files will play using Winodws Media Player.

CANNOT TRANSFER AUDIO FILES FROM WS-100 OLYMPUS VOICE RECORDER TO PC (Windows XP)

I wrote this for the Olympus VN-3100PC although it may work with this device as well.

Try this:

This problem can typically be solved by unplugging the device from your computer's USB port and plugging it in to another USB port on the same computer.

Also be sure you have Olympus Digital Wave Player installed and open with your Transfer Options set to Auto Transfer. To do this, follow the steps below:

Open Digital Wave Player > select Transfer from the menu > select Transfer Options > under Auto Transfer, check the box which reads "Transfer all audio files after detecting Recorder."

Refer to your Owner's manual to re-format your recorder. Sometimes, recorder memory can become corrupted just as with any electronic memory media.

USB not being recognised by pc

what can happen is that the voltage supplied to the usb port is not enough to power the recorder to transfer data, assuming you have tried other usb ports, and tried leaving other connected peripherals out connected to a usb port, it is always better to use a mains powered usb hub when connecting things like mp3 players and digital recorders as some motherboards, especially low powered units struggle with some peripherals.
