My dryer won't turn on it works great but suddenly I can't turn it on. When I push the button to start there is nothing.

The dryer functions are all impaired if the motor doesn't run. The heating circuit is activated only when the motor runs because power to the heating element is routed through the motor centrifugal switch. The problem here is likely a blown thermal fuse because power to the motor is routed to it. The motor cannot therefore run if the thermal fuse is blown.

Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse on the blower housing. The blower housing is located on the front left bottom of the dryer cabinet if the dryer has the lint filter on the front or at the rear left bottom if the lint filter is located on the top of the cabinet.

Dryer stops running before cycle is over then wont restart right away. it doesnt seem to be over heating. i have cleaned it to almost new condition so lint is NOT the problem. If i try to immediately start...

Hi, well you did the right thing by cleaning the lint and the unit up good. That's what causes a dryer to over heat. The problem you are having is with the motor over heating. I know this because I have had this happen on many dryers, and just from the information you gave me by trying to start it after it stops and it just hums. That's the motor locked out due to over heating for a internal problem, windings, maybe worn bearings or just wearing out.If you know about electrical, and you have an amp probe, you can see what the running load amps of the motor are and clamp the probe around the Hot wires AT the motor one at a time and see what the motor is pulling as far as amps. After the motor cools, I bet it will start again and run for awhile. The cost of the motor and getting it out may not be worth it. You can call a used appliance shop and may get a good used motor. But believe me, it is the motor. I'm sorry to tell you. Sincerely,
PS when it hums and then nothing, it trips the overload due to the heat.

Element heats up... but does nothing else

Steve,
Sounds like it is the motor gone bad. You are getting power to everything else. as a last ditch effort try testing the continuity of the wiring from and thru your push on switch to your motor.

If that checks "ok" then you may have to replace the motor.

Dryer does not turn on

Sounds like the motor relay is not functioning. Sometimes the motor will work if the button is pushed but will stop when the button is released. This is caused by a loose wire at the motor or a bad motor relay.
