Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a troy bilt that will not start. I purchased it last year, so it is pretty new. I finally got it to start after quite awhile of working on it.I put new gas in it and it worked for a short time. it shut itself off. I tipped it over to work on the lead head and would not start up again.

I took out the spark plug; it was grayish black and dry. It was not wet. I cleaned it off with carb cleaner. I also sprayed carb cleaner in the combustion chamber and put it back together. and it still would do nothing.

Remove and replace the spark plug since you had tip it over. It will be oil soaked and burnt now if started. Also add some carburetor cleaner additive to clean the varnish out of the fuel supply.

Check the spark plug wire with an ohm meter. It should register 20,000 ohms or more if good

The starter could be bad. Remove starter and see if it will turn over when 120v is applied.Check the wires to starter first! Good-Day!

Hello,

You need to remove the carburetor float bowl and clean it. The needle and seat also need to be cleaned. The best thing is to totaly remove the carb. and soak it in a commercial/professional strength cleaner.

Your problem is fuel related, but just to make sure, remove the spark plug and spray some carburetor cleaner in the hole, replace the plug and give it a pull. If it fires up then quits..... The fuel system is to blame.

Hope this helps, Matt

Troy-bilt self-propelled w/briggs and stratton 6.75hp after starting runs for 3 or 4 mins. dies out and in 3 mins later will start and do the same thing any suggestions?....thanka abb

Hello. Your carburator is partially clogged up. That said, if you havn't installed a new fuel filter and new air filter this year do so. Also put in a new plug if u havn't lately. Finally get a bottle of a fuel additive called seafoam and pour it into the fuel following the directions on the bottle. J.

It sounds like a problem with the drive pulley on the engine to me. Maybe the key is striped.

Could be any of several problems. Since you indicate you just bought it, I'd suggest you return it. Troy-Bilt is pretty good at making customers happy and should repair or replace it right away.

Trimmer will not start.

Yes. Your carbeurator is gummed up. Get some new gasoiline and add some carbeurator cleaner to it, usually one ounce per gallon. Dump the fuel u have in there and put in the new fuel.

Also, get some spray carb. cleaner, remove the air filter and put a couple of squirts into the air intake chamber. Then start it.

Finally if it still won't start, use a squirt of starter fluid to get things going and get the carbeurator cleaning into the system.

Tiller starts then stalls

The air filter should be replaced. Also remove the old gas and put in new from the gas station. Finally, if you didn't change the spark plug from last seaon, do so as it is a small amount of cash for a lot of easy starts.
