Question about Philips GoGear SA5285/37 Digital Media Player

I have a philips gogear sa5285/02 it is just loading up to the gogear logo and freezing it will not pick up on my computer i have tried to reset but nothing please can you give any advice

Try resetting from step 1 or try following steps:
In step 2 and 3 the player's content will be deleted !

Unfortunately the GoGear HDD series is totally incompatible with Windows Vista and Windows Media Player 11. It will work for a while, and then behave exactly as you described. Solution: You will need to uninstall your GoGear software, rollback to Windows Media Player 10, reinstall the GoGear software, update the firmware on your player, and even then the damage may already be done (IMO, it is more trouble than this player is worth). Loading Problem - Results in Frozen Gray Screen


It could be a hardware issue requiring replacement, but here are the things you can try to narrow it down:
1. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
2. Reset the player
3. Run an Updated using the latest version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips website
4. Run a Repair in Philips Device Manager

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.


If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

try reflashing the firmware if you can find the older firmware that worked try that if not then try redownloading the new firmware but make sure that nothing like windows media player is running and see if that helps

My GoGear 8G wont come on


1. On you computer, ensure that Philips Device Manager is running.
2. Turn your mp3 player on (it should freeze at the Loading or GoGear Screen).
3. Plug in the mp3 player to your USB/Charger cable (ensure it is connected to the USB port on your computer), and then perform a soft reset (Power switch down and Volume up button simultaneously).
4. Let go of the other buttons as soon as the player resets. Hold the Volume down button until the player comes on. The player will be recognized by Philips Device Manager and will report a problem (and will allow you to repair it). Windows will also recognize it as a Mass Storage Device.

You need a firmware upgrade.

Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).

I would recommend you to get the firmware upgrade on the device..that usually happens when your device firmware is corrupted...If after you done a firmware upgrade your device doenst work properly contact the manufacturer...
