Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 3500 Typewriter

1 Answer

IBM WheelWriter 3500

The typewriter does nothing but display a little box with a slash thru it and the numbers 215. It does not make if you power it off or unplug it, it continues to display that error code (I'm assuming) on the screen.

I tried this and the 215 code still remains unchanged on the display screen; could that also mean the keyboard is bad? Or can I simply throw out the old thing and tell the woman in that dept. to get with the times ;-)

In any case, thanks for your assistance.

Try pressing and holding code key while pressing "L" release "L"
and type 001 release the code key. If this solves the trouble but it comes back on the next power up the keyboard is bad.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 Series II is showing an error code of 215 with a box with a slash through it and am unable to type on it

215 is a Print Wheel error. Remove the print wheel, look for debris in the P/W area, if you have a compressed air source blow the P/W area out. If these don't work the P/W sensor is probably bad.

I have an IMB Wheelwriter 30 Series II. When I turned on the machine this morning it made a couple of ringing sounds and then on the display it reads a square with the number 215. Nothing else works on...

215 is a printwheel error. Remove the P/W, look for dirt or debris in that area, if you have a compressed air source blow out the P/W area. If these fail the P/W led sensor is probably bad.
and you most likely need a tech.

What does a box with a slash and 215 mean? we can't find our manual and I need to type diplomas for graduation today

215 means that the T/W isn't seeing the printwheel. Remove the P/W. look for debris in that area, blow some canned air into that opening, be sure the P/W is fully installed. If these don't help the LED is probably Bad.

My IBM Wheelwriter 30 Series II has a message of a box and an X in it and then the numbers 215 can someone tell me how can fix this?

Check to be sure the printwheel to be sure it is properly installed, check for debris in the P/W area, If these are OK then the sensor is probably bad.

In the display box there is a box w/ a slash through it and the number 215 following it. everything seems to be locked up - what do I do?

The book says bad keyboard. Try unplugging and repluggin the 2 keyboard ribbon connectors. If that fails contact Geo. Beyers Co. @1-800-392-8085 for a rebuilt keyboard.

I believe a 215 code is a bad printwheel sensor. You need a tech.

IBM wheelwriter 25 message: a box and diagonal line thru it and the number 215.

Code 215 is a printwheel error. Remove the P/W and look for debris in that area, if you have some compressed air source blow this area out, if this dosen't do it the P/W sensor or the LED are probably going bad.

The book says turn the T/W off wait 30 seconds and restart, if condition returns call for service. However you might try removing the batteries and unplugging the machine waiting a few minutes and restarting. CAUTION ALL THE MEMORY WILL BE LOST!
