I get no sound with DVDs recorded on my DCR-DVD 108 when I try to play them back on the DVD or Blue Ray player (both Sony). The only way I can get it to play with sound is on my laptop with Power DVD software. This has never been a problem before????

I cannot get sound on the DVDs I playback on a DVD or Blue Ray player that I have recorded with my Sony DCR-DVD 108. This has never been a problem until now. I can't find anything in the manual on this. The only way to play the DVD back with sound is on my laptop with Power DVD software.

I want to play the DVD, not tape, from my DVD or Blue Ray player, which is what I have been able to do in the past. I don't want to have to use the camcorder as the player. What do I need to do?

Ok ..this means that it is either an issue with the dvd player ..or with the format in which it was recorded..or the actually burning had been made with a converting ..the bottom line is that the dvd does not recognize the sound format ..
the thing to do is to reset the camera ...so if it did recorded before in a format that was playable in the DVD to do it again ..(resetting gets it to the default factory settings and if you changed something by mistake ..it should restore the setting )
another thing is to burn the disk again ..using Nero or ..but first convert the file in plane DVD format using a converter ..
I guess you can convert it in Nero directly ..but it will take a long time and it is not an easy task ...
so ..use this software to convert the files in DVD format ..(or in avi if the player supports divx (it should be written on the front side )
http://www.dvdvideoconverter.com/
but ..if you install Nero ..and it supports the input file ..and you choose from the Nero start smart window..make dvd disk..it will convert it to a comon DVD if it is in another kinda format..
also check the sound installation on your dvd player ...maybe there is something wrong with the settings or the cable...and the recorded disk has nothing wrong ..
in what regards the playing on the computer ..also try to play with VLC player

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Please follow these steps:-

1. Locate the RCA inputs on your DVD player/TV. Most models will have the yellow-red-white connections on the front, side or back of the device.

2. Attach all RCA cables to the input on your player according to color. This will ensure that you have enough length on the cable to stretch from your camcorder to your player

3. Attach the other end of the RCA cable to your camcorder, again according to color.

4. Turn on your camcorder and player. Turn the television to the channel which displays the camcorder footage. This could be channel 3, Input 1 or Aux on many standard televisions.

5. Insert the tape and press play on your camcorder and be sure that the footage is shown on the television. If it is not, check that the cables are secure, and that the television is on the proper channel.
AND....

Please ensure that the batteries are fully charged.

Good Luck and have a nice day.

You will either have to change the audio format or download a decoder

Actually you can use -rw or +rw, but you should use sony brand discs either way, check the finalizing settings.

If you need help with settings, you can refer to page 46-48 of the manual which can be viewed and/or downloaded here:

CAN VIEW THE DVD ON A COMPUTER OR THE DVD RECORDER BUT NOT ON DVDS PLAYERS BOUGHT BEEFORE THE RECORDER

This is quite common of older players. Some only work with DVD+R discs and others with DVD-R discs.
Some player also does not read recordable discs (an early form to try prevent piracy)
Also make sure if recorded on your Recorder, that the disc is finalized before you try to play it on an older player. (See your menu / manual on the recorder for the procedure)

Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

I 'Finalized' the DVD but cannot play on another player

Does the machine record on to + or - DVDR?
If it does both try each type. Also try high quality discs, some of the cheaper types won't work. Try it on different speeds too.

Audiologic DVD-108, music plays, cannot hear regular conversation

This sounds like a setting on your DVD player in its menu settings. You could try a couple of things, first being to unplug it for a couple of moments (5-10 minutes) or going through your menu on the DVD player with the remote or the front of the player. I assume that all of your DVDs have this problem.

Sony BluRaywon't play back disk

That is one of the problem with manufacturers that don't clearly explain the consumers that most of the blue ray dvd player is designed to play blue ray dvds &regular dvds, but it wasn't never designed to back any DVD-R or DVD-RW.
Sorry, there is no way around it,because Sony enjoyed being exclusive in many things.
