Question about Kenwood Car Audio & Video

I have poor FM reception and almost no AM signal

I have poor FM reception and very limited AM signal. This is with a Kenwood KDC-MP242 receiver in a 1998 Buick LeSabre. I want to use the antenna embedded in the rear window. Is there a wire which should be connected to provide power for the antenna? Thanks, Karl

Is there an antenna booster? The antenna cable feeds into a box next to the rear window.

I checked, there's no power for the radio antenna at that box. There's a wire on the MP242 receiver harness that the manufacturer said should not be connected. Is that blue wire usable?

Yes. They helped me connect the wires properly, and I have great reception now. Thank you.

There is no power to the antenna itself. The antenna connection simply plugs into the radio. Check the connections at the rear window to see if one of the wires is loose or disconnected.

There may very well be a booster and if there is then it may or may not be powered. Check for power at that box.

The blue wire is an antenna wire but you already have a antenna so that is not used. If you have the antenna hooked up to the radio and the radio previously installed was working correctly I would suspect there is something wrong with your Kenwood. Did you look at the antenna in the rear window to see if there is a break in in the circuit? I would contact the manufacture here or return the radio for a replacement.

Kenwood kdc-mp242 main sceen doesnot light up anymore or when it wants to,radio work well

you probably have bad solder connections on some surface mount resistors inside of the radio. they would be on the right side of the radio as it is facing you. they need to be resoldered.

Kenwood kdc mp242, no sound, ford explorer, 94

if that ford had premium sound you have either not hooked up the factory amp or you have blown a fuse to it. you won't get sound unless that amp is hooked up.

New kenwood kdc-mp242 installed turns on but no sound

The Blue/White wire, Brown wire, and Blue wire???? These don't have to be connected unless you are using a separate Power Amp...if you are, then the Blue/White wire needs to be used to switch on the power amp. Here is a link to Kenwood for your KDC-MP242 Instruction Manual. Reference page 16.
