Question about Kenwood VR-509 Receiver

2 Answers

My vr-509 was on and working, then it suddenly shut-off and there was a faint electrical smell. When I turn it back on it only stays on for a few seconds and then the on button blinks with a small red light. I have disconnected all connections from the back and it still is doing the same thing. Is there a fuse to possibly replace? Tim

No, it isn't under warranty and I use the receiver in our pool house. Is the fuse something I could buy at Radio Shack and repair myself? Where is it located in the receiver?

    Thanks, Tim

My unit is no longer under warranty and I would like to try to fix myself. Can I pick up this fuse at Radio Shack? Where in the unit is it?

Hi,
I'm afraid, it does not look like fuse issue in your Kenwood VR509 amplifier because when problem occurred you felt electrical part burnt smell that shows some parts got fried in circuit board and will be replaced.
Other reason is if fuse got blown, amplifier wont even turn on to show you blinking light, fuse is good and amplifier is getting power but other parts in output section of amplifier got problem and protection circuit gets activate and shuts down amplifier with blinking light to avoid further damage.
It can be fixed through qualified technician only as it is not user level repair.
I'm sorry for that bad news but have to say the facts.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Hello Tim. Yes. There is a fuse which requires removing the outer cover. If this unit is under warranty it is best to contact the store as opening it up to do a repair will void the warranty. Joe

Check all your speaker wires for shorts, especially behind the amp, doesn't take much for something to throw a spanner in the works, like when cleaning house and moving stuff around.

Kenwood VR-209 Still does not work after the speakers are unplugged.

I have a VR205 with the same problem. I can make it stay on by doing this: as soon as the display lights up turn off the power and then turn it back on quickly. Do this 3 or 4 times. Mine usually stays on after this....the relays latch and all is well I suspect one of the step-start relays as I have checked everything else out and all is in order and the receiver works fine. I would love to find a shop manual for this series of receivers. Anyone know where such an animal exists?

No sound from my VR-507

My Kenwood1.gif VR-507 had been working great. I hadn't changed anything. I hadn't even moved it. It just suddenly stopped producing sound. It didn't just stop while it was on. I had turned it off and when I turned it back on, nothing. I tried running the speaker setup to see if it would output pink noise, I could hear the test sound, but I couldn't hear any audio from the TV or DVD player..

Help. :-(
