Question about Texas Instruments TI-89 Calculator

I am trying to do SinReg on the calculator and it refuses to let me, it jsut says err:singular mat and when i press go to it just says SinReg but i really need it to work? Any help?? thank you!

Your value is not within the domain of the function, that is why it's giving you that error message, try the value times -1, or -(your value)

Restore the L1 list. Press STAT and select the option 5:SetUpEditor and press ENTER. By default the Xlist is always L1. But if you deleted it and did not restore it as described above, you can still specify the Xlist and YList .

Notice the capital A on line XLIST. It means that the ALPHA keyboard is active. Press the ALPHA key to deactivate it. Now press 2nd 1 to enter L1, 2nd 2 to enter L2, etc.

If you wnat to save the regression equation, enter a function variable name at the line Store RegEQ: . Press VARS>Y-VaRs>1:Function>1:Y1 or another function name.

When finished press the CALCULATE option. After it is stored the regression equation can be drawn on the same screen as the scatter plot.

I was having the same problem. Whenever I hit the graph button after a linear function was entered in Y1 I would get a screen that said "ERR: INVALID DIM 1:Quit"

I messed with a lot of settings but ended up returning settings back to default. The thing that fixed the calculator's ability to graph was UN-highlighting the Plot1, Plot2, and Plot3 words. If they are white on black they are highlighted. If the words are black then they are UN-highlighted.

To UN-highlight Plot1, Plot2, Plot3, do this: move the cursor up to the highlighted Plot1 and hit "enter." Notice the difference? Now do the same to the others and see if it fixes your problem like it fixed mine.

from your description it could be the battery compartment it does not conect on the main circuit

if you can open and check the connectors it might be loose

if it will not help and you still want to fix Calculator let me know

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the diamond key. Press and hold the + key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

- Enter the data using the [STAT][EDIT].
- Once you finish populating your lists, press [STAT] button.
- Three menu options are displayed EDIT, CALC, TESTS
- Use right arrow to highlight CALC Menu.
- Use DownArrow to scroll down the list to reach [C:SINEREG] or press Press [ALPHA][C:SineREG].
- The command will echo on main screen.
- Specify the lists to be used for the 2-var data and Press[ENTER] to execute command.

LinearReg: Linear y=ax+b

Med-Med also linear y=ax+b

QuadReg :Quadratic y= ax^2+bx+c

Cubic: y=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d

Quartic: y=ax^4+bx^3+cx^2+dx+e

LogReg, logarithmic: y=a+b*ln(x)

ExpReg, exponential y=a*e^(bx)

PowerReg, power: y= ax^b

SinReg, sinusoidal: y=a*sin(bx+c) +d

LogisticReg, logistic; y= c/(1+a*e^(-bx))

There may be more regression models appropriate for more advanced (specialized) statistics but the ones in the list are all the CFX-9850GB plus offers. However, since the calculator knows a programming language, you may want to implement a particular model.

I had this problem as well...Were you working on a SinReg equation by any chance? I was able to do every other type of regression (Linear, quadratic, cubic, ect..) In order to get Sinusoidal regression you need to make sure you arrow down to the Period box when entering the equation, and fill it in with the number of items in your table of values (a ten item list means a period of 10). That was the fix for me, so hopefully it works for you!

into lists other than L1 and L2. If you do SinReg

with no arguments, the machine defaults to using L1

and L2.

Second, check degree versus radian mode.

Third, I have had problems in the past with SinReg

when the data were *too good*. I think a singular

matrix might be the culprit in a case like this, but I

doubt that's the problem here. If you think it might

be, try deleting every other data point and try the

regression again.

Well, i'm having problems with my Sansa c140 also, but with this problem I think I can help, hook your mp3 player into your computer, than delete all the songs, and simply put them all back on, and if that doesn't work, than repost.
