    Hi!

Yes you are wright about "access point (wireless signal) is not giving you a valid IP address." I installed a ASUS net4switch tool and its saying "DHCP error". Can I remotely restart DHCP server on that wireless router. It's not router in our home, I can't reboot it. Wireless card is ok because I tried another PCMCIA Cisco 801.a/b/g wireless network adapter and same error appeared.

But my neigborough with his XP Home Edition working with same network without any problems. I'm using same laptop but I tried to change operating systems (apart of XP Home Edition ) but same error appeared. I thought is vista problem but it looks like something else. And both wireless network tools Cisco Aironet Client utility(external PCMCIA adapter ) and Atheros wireless network(for internal wireless adapter) utility showing very good signal from that router but packets not coming back :((.

Before works very good on Vista. Maybe I need to try to install some other protocol or do you know some programs for show more information about this wireless router because it unsecure, no need any key? Many thanks in advance.

The problem could be with the wireless network that you are trying to access, or it has something to do with you wireless card tcp/ip protocol.

where you using the same computer now, when you had this issue with the vista? or is this win XP pc that you have now is a different computer?

if you are getting limited or no connectivity, that means that the access point (wireless signal) is not giving you a valid IP address.

you can try to add static to your IP settings, but this will only work if you knew the IP range of that network that you are trying to access.

please provide more info

Are you telling us that you are using a Bluetooth adapter to try to connect your ASUS N50Vn laptop.to a wireless network??? For that you need a (wireless) network adapter (it plugs into an available USB port on your laptop. like the BT adapter), not a Bluetooth adapter.

you will need the drivers updated or replace the network card. if the drivers from Asus do not repair the problem, then i suggest a new adapter. here is an inexpensive one from eBay.

i also recommend changing the antenna whenever you change the wireless network adapter.

since you did not list the model of the laptop this is my best guess at what you will need. if you can send the model number i could double check this application for you.

I can figure out that your laptop runs Windows Vista. Go to Control panel, then Network and Sharing centre and then go to Manage Network Connections and see if the Wireless Network Connections icon is disabled, make sure it is enabled and not connected. Try disabling and enabling it again. If still no go, try to manually turn off the wireless switch and turn it back ON. Check the light status (if any), confirm the error message too. If still, it seems not to be working, then the internal switching might have gone bad. You need to get the laptop serviced.

Look on the left side of your laptop, right at the front left side is a switch/button. I think I accidentally switched it of, but now everything is working fine!

I have a laptop running 802,11 g/b and vista and I Cant connect to linksys wag160n wireless router(802,11 n). laptop sometimes recognises network but when I try to connect it wont. could you help ?

Hi, You cannot connect across wireless protocols. In other words to connect to 802.11 n you need an "n" adapter.

Now, the router should be backward compatible & provide wireless g/b but you may find that when you search for networks it will be listed as a seperate network name (from the same router)

Try searching for this other network. Your router documentation should advise you of its default name & any set up process

How to change (or update) wap to wpa encryption on ASUS WIFI-B Network Adapter

With this Asus wireless B adapter even the new driver dont support WPA wireless security , because right now sicne WPA is a much newer and higher type of wireless encryption only some wireless B adapter supports that and sorry to say this wireless adapter that you have don't support it even with the latest driver so it will be better to get a new wireless G adapter that supports WPA 100% , you can get the wireless adapter from Asus or from other wireless device manufacturer like Linksys, Netgear. Dlink and Belkin....
