I opened my speakers up, and it appears to be a design problem from the looks of it. When the headphones are plugged in, a switch inside is supposed to switch audio from speakers to headphones, but the audio line from the pc is not on the center pins, so it works just fine without headphones plugged in, but when they are inserted, the audio from the pc gets cut off at the switch and goes nowhere.

How do you open these speakers? I removed the front panel, the speaker element and the four phillips screws, but it still won't come apart and I'm afraid to pry to hard.

Not really, see the headphone connector if it fits the unit. If it fits but doesnt work then the headphones may have a problem. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

Can JBL Pebbles be connected to an iPad mini?

From a customer review:
It also has an aux 3mm input

If you connected the headphone out of the ipad to the aux in on the speakers via a Male to Male 3.5mm cable the speakers would work. The only amplification would be from the ipad, not the then unpowered speakers.

I have JBL encounter speakers and i want use them with my Mac, when i plug nothing comes out (sound)

Hi,
Wanted to clarify , if the you plug in a headphone are you are able to get the sound from them . If yes than , you might need to check the connection on the speakers. If the headphones are also not working through the audio jack . You would have to check the following

1. Check if there is any external damage to the audio jacks both on the MAC and the JBL connector
2. Check if the sound properties on the MAC are configured correctly
3. Check if the sound card drivers are installed correctly.

Thanks for using fixya

I used the left hand pad on the control unit to reduce the volume to nothing, and cannot get the level back up again. matthew

  1. Check the power connections on your speakers, make sure that the power LED's on the small speakers are lit.
  2. Make sure the green cable is connected to the computer's speaker port (Usually a green headphone-type jack) and also the the speaker- a similar type jack.
  3. Adjust system volume 2_6_2012_8_52_14_pm.png by clicking, drag volume slider bar up to about 75%, and release.
  4. Turn up speaker's volume using the volume (and bass volume) knob on the main speaker.
  5. Play an audio file. Note that if you are using Windows Media Player, etc. you may need to turn volume up there also.
  6. If you are still having trouble go to start/control panel and select sounds. This will show your installed audio devices. If there are no devices, then please provide the make model, etc. of your computer and I will go from there.
  7. Test the devices in another setting will help identify a hardware problem. For example, test your speakers with an MP3 player, or your computer's CD-ROM usually has a headphone jack; test the audio on your PC with a set of headphones, or another set of speakers. If either of these fail it may indicate a hardware problem. Feel free to post back any additional information and I will try to provide further help. Please include your make, model, and version of windows so I can provide specific info for your PC.
I found the following info on your speakers, which you may also find helpful:

How do i connect the following speakers to a tv?

Look for a headphone jack plugin on the TV, and if you have one then plug the speakers into that. Otherwise if you only have RCA audio jacks on the TV (red/white plug-ins), you'll need an RCA male/stereo female adapter. I did a quick search and found this one on Amazon for $1.49:

http://www.amazon.com/Male-3-5mm-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable/dp/B000I23TTE

You could probably find one at Radioshack or a local electronics store otherwise.

Also, in case you need it, here's a link to the owner manual:
