I just went into configure on the computer and files and intentionally disabled then enabled system guard manually and it took care of the problem. Also after I enabled I just minimized the screen on my desktop for a few hours to see if it would disable by itself but it was ok. I noticed when you place the dot in enable or disable a little highlighted box (almost looks like a perforated box) circles around the dot, If you click next to it, it disappears. I know this is a late post, but I just now was having this same problem.
I would check if your computer is running Anit-spyware like AVG.
I have the same problem, Mcafee is turning it self off because there is another program to take its place.
I have SpySweeper for MSN and Mcafee does the same thing, but before I had Spysweeper, Mcafee worked just fine. So I deleted ALL traces of the former Spysweeper and again Mcafee worked just fine.
There is nothing wrong with Mcafee, it can not compete with others so instead of looking at Anti-spyware code, that most do have Spyware code, so each other would say it spyware.
You can click "Ignore" on the Mcafee, just as long you have another Anti-spyware program running.
Now to fix it you have to go to the reg and remove all codes and prorgams with the any other Anti-spyware that was removed. I use the following to fix all REG codes:
http://www.ccleaner.com and check to see how tight you have your firewall set to also.
Go to McAfee - log into online chat. They will download and install a patch. Took care of the problem immediately.

go to this site. had this problem several months ago, took forever to fix. had this problem again yesterday, has solved again. don't know why systemgurad stopped running either time but this works.
Have you tried running the Virtual Technician on McAfee's Website. If there are problems with the software it will usually find and fix it.
All honesty, next time try Norton 360, I have it on 9 computers and it give me no problems. Some are XP home, XP professional and Vista Home Premium. Norton 360 is a little pricey but it is great!
I found McAfee slows the computers down because the files are so big.
I am not familar with Kaspersky, sorry. I just know that 360 runs great on all different operating systems. I runs in the background and let's you know when to clean your computer. I won't buy anything else.
I did some research on your problem and have many to have the same problem and McAfee has no answers. It seems to be glitch in the software and the company is not doing anything about it.
Sorry I could not be of more help.

My systemguard keeps disabling as well. I used Virtual Tech and I still have the problem. I also did a system restore and it didn't help. I'm fed up with McAfee

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, i have ran the Virtual Technician. In fact, it reports that everything is fine even when the SystemGuard is actually disabled!!
Haven't thought of Norton 360.I've heard a lot about Kaspersky from a few friends of mine. What's your opnion about that?
I agree completely with you, that McAfee really slows down the computer especially the startup.Takes forever!
In the end, however, i still can't figure out what's causing SystemGuard to become disabled at startup. I have done all the scans by Spybot, Ad-Aware, McAfee, Windows Defender, Panda Online Activescan and Kaspersky Online Scanner. Nothing found. Any suggestions?

"...the company is not doing anything about it". You can say that again.
I'm really getting fed up with having to see this message over and over again at startup. Contacted the McAfee people, seems that they don't give the same attention after you've purchased their product. They've simply said "we're looking into the problem". Yeah ONLY looking but not DOING anything significant to solve it though.
I'm seriously considering the probability of buying a new AV software. Anyways, thanks a lot for your help & effort.
McAfee...shissh

systemguard randomly disables while browsing in firefox
systemguard disables randomly
Same Problem! I Looked into & double checked settings! I have contacted Mcafee & your right! They just don't care! I am sooooo sick of that icon telling me MY COMPUTER IS NOT FULLY PROTECTED! What is going on?
Systemguard has been disabling randomly with Firefox.
What I would like to know is what advice there might be to fix this problem. There are only lists of questions and comments
Since the last update, I cannot enable my systemguards. They get disabled every time I quit the interface or software.
It disables sometimes, but I try to fix it. But however I'm still bit annoyed by it most times. Try looking at Mcafee forums so that way you can resolve the "Stop Random Disable System Guard" thing on forums or so.
Started last week. SystemGuard gets disabled over and over again.
Same symptom, after installing tasktop plugin for eclipse IDE. Removing the plugin resolves the problem, but of course defeats the point. Judging from the info on the net, third party software is likely the cultprit. Finding the offending app is difficult appaently because there can be a delay of several hours between when a problem arrises and McAfee reports it. Or so it seems. It would be useful if McAfee provided the option of a diagnostic mode of some sort for this. I suspect diagnosing the problem would require almost hijacking the system for a while to watch for transactions that trigger the fault. Which is why I suggest making this an option.

Have we figured out how to fix this?
I tried to get on McAfee sites right now but for whatever reason they are not working.
McAfee support is 110% a joke!!! Everytime I've contacted them they have never fixed a problem and continually keep acting like nothing needs to be done about it. Then have the nerve to ask me questions I've already answered. I hate that.
Just like everyone else, systemguard, anti spyware, keeps shutting off. Mine was good, my pc installed updates, Windows SP3, I had to run a recovery disc and now have the same problem on 2 window xp PC's.
I also am running McAfee's Security Center and after someone boots the machine it always says there is a problem, which turns out to be SystemGuard is off.
