Canon NP4050 putting out blank pages

Our church was given a Canon NP4050. It was working fine when it arrived, but then started misfeeding. A few days later the paper started feeding through OK, but now there is no image on the paper; it's putting out completely blank pages. I've used this copier at work for 8 years and never had that happen. I've checked the obvious - there is an original on the glass; the glass is clean; the scanner light slides back and forth normally when trying to make a copy; there is plenty of toner; the drum is good.

    Hi Cogz,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the blue lever under the toner hopper. It's in the "right and up" position, locked in place; the screw is there and seems snug. When in position, it lifts a section from the middle of the machine (presumably the developing unit - sorry, I don't know the proper terminology for the various parts). But still no image on the paper.

    Still looking ....

Thanks for the continued help. Apologies for my ignorance on the proper terms and I do appreciate the way you have specified what to look for and how to identify it. I'm impressed at how well you remember it after all these years. :)

Found the black cube that holds the corona wires, pulled it out (carefully). The wires are all in place, tight, and clean. I pushed it back in securely and did the wire clean procedure which sounded normal.

There is a small (approx 1/4" square) white handle in the same vicinity that can also be pulled out. It is a 3-sided piece of metal. I pulled it almost out and pushed it back securely.

It's alternately putting out blank papers (still not even a hint of black on the page) or misfeeding - usually putting the paper back under the center area as though it were going to do a double-sided copy (even though it's set to make only a single-sided copy). The double-sided feature hasn't worked for quite awhile, but hasn't caused problems as long as we were doing single-sided copies. It has also accordianed a few pages just before they should have exited the unit (still which no image).

I've taken some photos and can post links to them if that would be helpful and if it's allowed.

    Thanks for your help,

The pre-cleaner corona wire ... yeah, that's the "little white handle" that I'd pulled out and pushed back in. I took it completely out, but still no copies.

There is another part that I'm wondering about. Maybe you've already mentioned it and I failed to understand. I've uploaded some pics at: (just click on the "jpg" links, and then click "back" on your browser to get back to the index). One of the pics has a red arrow pointing to a black part. It moves a LITTLE, just back and forth. It is pressing against the side of the copier - not a lot, but just enough to push the plastic side out a tiny bit. Somehow it seems that it shouldn't be touching the cabinet like that. I can move it away from the side just a bit, but it immediately goes back (heavy spring?).

Thanks for hanging in there and continuing to offer suggestions. :)

The NP 4050 has been known for given blank copies... Is the developing unit locked in place... There is a Grey or blue lever inside the front door to the right... It is under the toner hopper. It's been along time... I believe the lever should be clicked to the right and up. Also there is a locking screw that holds it in place, Most times that screw is missing and the unit falls away from the drum unit and you get blank copies and the front door will close.. Good Luck

Ok, the scanning lamp works & the developer is locked in place... Have you made sure the Primary charge unit is pushed in all the way. If you swing out the toner hopper the drum unit seats right behind it. You will see what looks like a Black cube, try to pull it out slowly & then reinstall it & try the copier. Next I would look to see if the Transport unit is locked up all the way. On that unit is the transfer corona unit, make sure that is pushed in all the way, that should be locked in with a screw. It's been awhile since I worked on one. But also, dose the transport unit look loose? As I said it's been at least 6 - 8 years the last time I worked on one... If these few things did not help, you may have a broken corona wire... Good Luck

Lets try one more thing.... This may do it, I had forgot about it. There is another corona unit. If you look under the drum & developer unit in front there is a small brown handel, if it is there. It will pull straight out toward you. There is one corona wire in that unit, remove it from the copier and see if you gat a copy. If you do leave that part out. It is the pre cleaning corona wire, it can short out the transfer corona unit... Those getting blank copies.. Good Luck.....
