Why not go into audio settings and see if it isn't just an indicator that the headphone will be the default output device until you suggest using the speakers....

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: screen doesnt seem to work

first off--make sure all the cables are in right and tight.
is all good then the screen is burnt out. LDC black light is bad. std monitor not worth fixing, replace. Flat screen same replce..OR your video card is bad. the way to check the monitor is to have someone else plug it into their set and see if it works or take it to a computer store and have them check it for you..

I have an Evesham Evolution desktop with Windows XP SP2 product recovery disc. I want to reformat the drives and carry out full "clean" install and reload all software. I insert the recovery...

It sound like you have a recovery disk not an install disk. The recovery disk you have just lets you repair windows only. If you insert the disk after windows starts and it runs you can then try to back up what you want and delete what you don't want, then run a windows repair. Its the only option, My other suggestion is to purchase Windows 7 and do a clean install.

My laptop screen is flickering

That could be ths connector that connect the LCD to the Motherboard in the laptop. Ive seen something similiar wherein i took down the screen, cleaned up the connectors and it worked like new...... for a few weeks then it went back and started he flickering again. We finally fixed the problem by replacing the screen. Apparently the connector behind the screen was giving trouble. Have someone check the cable from your LCD to the board but I think you might need to fix the connector or replace the LCD screen. Regards, babb
