Question about Craftsman 21 Hp 42" Deck, Ys 4500 Lawn Tractor

1 Answer

Craftsman YS4500 20HP mower, was mowing and it just stopped running and since it won't turn over at all, completely dead. I replaced the battery, suspect there may be a blown fuse? Where is the fuse housing - no manual.

Problem fixed. It was a blown fuse. The fuse was found clipped to the housing by the sylenoid. Thanks for your help.

Under the hood right behind the stearing wheel colum there is a place for fuses and relays, you may have a bad relay or safty switch, check to make sure the seat switch is plugged in all the way that is the most common problem i see with these when they come in for repair

Electric blade clutch won't work and battery went dead

If you have a new battery and it went dead that quickly I would check the charging system on the mower engine. Many of them use a voltage regulator and if it goes bad it will not properly charge the battery. Get the engine running (do not engage the PTO) and use a multimeter set on DC voltage. Place the multimeter leads on the battery and you should see approximately 13-14 volts DC at the battery terminals when it is running. If less then that then it's a problem with the charging system and further tests would be needed to figure out if it is a bad regulator or charging coil.

John Deere La175 Battery doesn't charge while mowing. After I mow for an hour or so and turn tractor off, it won't start. When I put the charger on it for a second or two, it turns over and runs....

I had the same problem. My LA 175 mowere deck would not engage and I figured out that the battery was not sending the sufficient 12volts to the mower deck to run the mower. I replaced the battery and that fixed the problem only to reveal the original problem. Within 2 hours of mowing the battery again died. I replaced the voltage regulator and that didnt help. I need suggestions on where to go from here please. Anybody?

I have a craftsmen. Went out to mow and the battery was dead. Recharged it and then when i went to let off brake/ clutch it started to die. This also happened when trying to engage the blade. I check...

Just to help you with your troubleshooting:
You can get off the seat with the engine running if the blades are not engaged and the brake is on.
I also think that you can start the mower without being in the seat, but I'm not sure about that.
First, see if you can jump the seat switch.
Second, I think the discharged battery is a different issue.

Have a john deere sabre turn key won't start thought battery was dead charged battery still won't start jump start with car battery it will start then . try to engage reverse with blades running it...

Some mowers have a mowing reverse safety switch. That safety will kill the mower if you try to reverse with the deck engaged. Some mowers even have an override button that has to be held while backing up. As for the battery thing, no matter how much you charge a bad battery you will not get it to start a mower if it has a bad cell or two. I would use a multimeter to check battery voltage, but the end result would still be the same, replace the battery.

I hope this gets you going again.

I have a LT1000 riding mower, the other day while i was mowing the engine just shut off.I tried to start it back up and does not do anything.Completely dead?

If the engine doesn't do anything then it is probably a bad relay on the starter. If it turns just a little bit, but not very fast then you either need to charge or replace the battery. You can take the battery to your local parts store and they should be able to test/charge it for you.

LT1000 Will not start no clicking no turning over just dead

Do you have a multitester? A multitester set on vdc, should tell you if your battery has discharged. Should have about 12.5 to 13.0 volts for the engine to turn over. Could be a fuse, or bad connection. How corroded are the battery terminals?
Hope that helps.
