Question about Vivitar DVR518 Camcorder

Vivitar dvr 518 cannot access memory card

Although having format the card as manual says (too quickly, very suspicious) the camera never recorded anything. it shows that has a memory card inside but it only records on its little built in memory. Ive tried different cards, as Scandisk 4 gb SDHC or Crucial 8 gb SDHC , and it is allways exactly the same. Please help...

Thank you for your prompt response. There is no option in the menu to choose where images should be recorded. The manual says:

    1. Locate the SD card slot on the bottom of the camcorder. 2. Insert an SD memory card correctly in the direction shown. 3. Press the memory card until you hear a "Click" sound. The memory card when properly inserted will sit flush with the camcorder. Note: After you insert an SD memory card, the SD card icon will appear on the right side of the LCD, indicating that your SD memory card has been installed successfully. The media you capture will now be stored on the card and not in the internal memory.

    1.  This product supports SD cards of up to 8GB.

    2. Formatting will delete all data on the SD Memory Card including protected data.

    3.  Do not remove the SD memory Card during formatting as this may damage the card and render it unusable.

    4.  Before using the camcorder, be sure to format the card with the camcorder (see the Setup section further on in the manual for instruction on how to format the card).

    Format
Using this function will delete all the files (including protected ones) in internal memory or the SD memory card. Caution: Please make sure to download the images first before using this feature as all the images sitting in the camcorder will be erased from the card and internal memory. This process is irreversible.

    1. 1. Press the Up/Down button and select the Format option from the menu.

    1. 2. Press the OK button to enter the Format submenu.

    2. 3. Press the Up/Down button to highlight and select the Format option you desire.

    Yes; No

    1. 4. If you wish to format the memory select Yes or No to cancel the format.

    2. 5. Press the OK button to begin the Format.

    3. 6. A "Waiting…" message appears on the LCD as the camcorder is formatted.

I-ve tried again and still there are no images recorded at the memory card. Thank you

The manual that I am looking at (DVR-510, not DVR-518) says that your Vivitar DVR-518 camcorder is SD memory chip compatible, not SDHC. I personally have several devices that are not compatible with the SDHC format, so I know the frustration. May I recommend you try again with a different chip, one with the older SD format style.

I hope that helps.

If it shows that it has memory card it means that it is reading it ..so go to the menu and choose to store videos on the card ...it has to have a feature that preset this ..I m not sure what it is called ..but probably in a feature storage device or so ..
you actually have to access the main menu ...system menu and enable copy to card ..or something like that ..I looked in a menu for a 510 ..but I guess it is the same..

It really seams that your card should see the card and start storing in it automatically ..so if you formatted it ..and the card shows the sign on the lcd monitor it should work ...I mean already be usable and all you capture to store on the card ..if it does not it means that the camera is damaged in this matter ...but ..like I said ..on an earlier model 510 ..it does says in the menu ...a function named copy to card..and it has an option for yes and no..meaning enabled and disabled ...I thing you should take a better look ..cause telling you that it should copy to dard directly after the formatting does not mean that the function is automatically ...but just that it is a default setting to do that ..

I need manual or CD,DVD that come w/ the vivitar experience image manager dvr-518 I cut into the package. What type of charger go with it. awatkins225@yahoo.com

The DVR-518 uses three AAA batteries. You can use either disposable or rechargeable batteries. If you choose to use rechargeables, you will have to charge them separately, outside the camera. Any battery charger will work, as long as it's compatible with the type of batteries you choose.

I have Vivitar DVR 518,I recieved from Newport Pleasure coupons in about Nov. 2010. I cut into the package, but didn't realize it had a CD in it. Also,I need intructions for my camcord and need to know...

The DVR 518 uses SD and SDHC cards up to 8GB in size.

You can download the manual and request the software from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.vivitar.com/products/2/digital-video-recorders/361/dvr-518

The best way to download videos from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy videos from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any video cataloging program.

I have DVR 518, I put a SD card in with pic's on it and it said 0

This camera supports up to 8GB SD memories, if your SD has this or less capacity, and it's not write protected, you should copy all the files from SD in your computer and try to format the SD with your camera.

Hi

Sorry to hear about the problems you have with your Vivitar DVR-518.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Check there is not dirt de-pressing any of the button. If one of the button is being pressed permanently none of the others will work

2. Remove the memory card and see if this fixes the problem

3. Try a new set of batteries

If all else fails contact Vivitar - www.vivitar.com

Hope one of these suggestions helps

DVR 518 question regarding sd card compatibility;- will the product accept a SDHC card to 8gb I have difficulty in getting a standard SD card

Hi,

The manual is not very precise but you cannot get normal SD cards that go to up 8gb, the highest is 2gb.

When they say 8gb they must mean SDHC.

Hope this helps.

Is the vivitar dvr 530 compatible with sdhc cards

Plug the SD card with contact terminals facing away from battery. It most likely is using internal memory which is much smaller. All cards under 4gb are normal SD. The camera should be able to format the card, or use an adapter and windows will format (default settings).
