Hello,
I own this same MP3 player. Had this happen to me and I have a great laptop too. Just out of the blue it would not work in any of my USB ports. When your MP3 is plugged into your USB port you should be able to click on "devices" and go to your MP3 player and there should be a option to fix the driver. It will update the driver for the MP3 player. What's happening is your driver is not recognizing the MP3 player. No biggie, you just have to make it recognize it again.
Regards, Tony

My mp3 is not getting charged

First make sure your driver is updated to insure your PC is recognizing your mp3 player.Try a different USB port on your PC and also try another USB cord to insure neither is the issue. Your battery may be very worm too and need replaced. One of these should be the fix.

My computer is not charging or recognizing my Sony Walkman.

I seem to have resolved the problem. I investigated the drivers through the control panel. When I selected the walkman I received a message that said there was an error in the driver registration and a reference to code 19. After researching code 19 on-line, I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and everything is now working normally. I should mention that I did try the reset button, and it did not work for my problem, but it also didn't cause any other problems.

Sony Walkman SUDDENLY won't connect to my computer

What you can try doing is to uninstall the driver that the computer has installed for it. To do this, right click on My Computer/Computer (depending on your OS it has different names) click properties, and then manage. Once that opens, on the left menu, select Device Manager. From there, plug in your MP3 player, double click to get to its properties, and then uninstall it. restart your computer, and hopefully that should fix it so you can get into it and format it. If you have any problems, repost and i can try helping you more. Sean Huffstickler

My Walkman will not power up or charge.

I just solved a similar problem with my Walkman. When I'd plug it into my computer, it wouldn't charge. I read in the troubleshooting section of the manual that it could be a problem with the computer or its USB connection. I connected my mp3 player to a different computer and it charged fine. If it's not responding at all, you may want to try the reset button (if your model has it).
Hope that helps!

Sony walkman nwz-a816 getting usb device not recognized

okay, try plugging it in. Go to Startmenu, right click 'My computer', and select properties. Go to the 'Hardware' tab, then Device manager. Down at the bottom, you should see a section of the tree that can be expanded, entitled 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' Find the Unknown device part. Select that, then go to 'Action','Uninstall'. After un-installation, the computer might restart. Unplug your walkman. When windows is back up, plug it in, and see if that works. if not, I have an alternative solution
