Last week I was using skype with my built in mic. I have a inspiron 1525 Dell laptop. My voice kept falling away for the other person so under control p - hardware and sounds - manage audio devices - recording, I had two mic's there. I guess one internal and the other external. I set the external one as default (SIGMATEL high definition audio CODEC) and the other one dissappeared and I can't find it back. I have tried finding devices, downloading from Dell website, reinstalling drivers and restarting my comp, etc and nothing is working. I am wondering how to find my mic back. Can you please help me?
ps. I only have one mic under recording now: SIGMATEL high definition audio CODEC and had two.

Hi, the best "option is to perform a System Restore," select from Control Panel or the "Accessories (System Tools) in the "All Programs," Start Menu. Select the (Date of recovery prior to the change); at least a day before to make sure the "Restore" will not miss any changes on the day of the change. Follow all the instructions "carefully," be patient, and "DO NOT RUN!" any programs during or after the System Restore is complete! The computer will "restart," system restore is still making corrections. "I Hope for the best, rating the solution is appreciated, thanks.

Yes this Dell laptop does have a built-in mic. If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype. To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype. To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
Most laptops that have built in web cams have preloaded software in the programs. If you don't have the software anymore you might be able to download it from Dell. Or you could use third party software. Skype will work.
If you are using the Dell Webcam then i know what's wrong. Go to the Dell Webcam Consol click effects. If "Enable Audio Affects" box is checked then uncheck it. This takes away the audio affect you are hearing in speakers.
Have you checked to see whether the correct settings have been selected for the microphone in the Control Panel>Hardware>Audio Devices page? Once you see which driver works (i.e., which one responds to your voice), right-click and set that as the default. Or you can try to set up the Speech Recognition program under All Programs>Accessories>Ease of Access, and try the different microphone settings till the onboard one responds to your voice. Perhaps the SigmaTel driver has been updated since you bought the laptop--go to the Dell Download site and download the sound driver for it, see if one of these helps!
my dell inspirion 1525 microphone is not working. when i am on yahoo messenger i hear the other person but they can't hear me unlike before i use to hear the othe person because there is an in built mic.
check your microphone settings. first, be sure it is plugged in and on. next, in skype, connect to a call. in my version (18.104.22.168) you can check you mic and speaker settings by pressing the headet icon at the lower part of the screen. i use windows default settings but try others to find one that will work. you can chat with your contact to hel ptroubleshoot the call.
