Circuit breaker only half working - reddish flag?

BRYANT
TYPE BR
BR 120
CU 10 - 14
AL 0 - 12

We have purchased a remodeled 1975 condo and had a complete house inspection performed. All was fine. We recently had an electrician come out and add a heater and a couple extra outlets.Everythings been fine. The problem is:

The curcuit breaker that handels my kitchen/hallway lights and my garage light, suddenly, the kitchen/hallway lights don't work but the garage lights do. The breaker does turn on again after switching to off. Finally, the top of the breaker has a red/orange flag of somesort protruding up. Does this mean the breaker can just be replaced or do I need to have an electrician come out to look for further problems. Everything else in the house works fine. Thanks for your advice.

A red indicator means a circuit overload has tripped the breaker. You mentioned a heater? Does the circuit tripping coincide with the heater running? There may be too much load on that circuit.
Contact the original electrician to see if he will come check it out ( licensed, reputable electrician should have no problem with this). If he gives you the run around, find another. Was any aluminum wiring found in the home inspection?

If the breaker handle is in the middle position, it needs to be reset. you reset it by pushing it to the OFF position and then to the ON position

Air Conditioning Condenser trips @90degrees

the problem may not be the circuit breaker, take an amp reading to see if the breaker is doing its job and tripping on an overload situation. if the circuit is exceeding the breakers rating then the problem is with the unit not the breaker.

Hello
The spring in the breaker is worn.Best to shut off main and disconnect breaker, pull out of box and take it to a electrical hardware store.

Home depot and lowes sell many different types. The numbers you gave match nothing i can find.

Where is the main switch to shut off the power in the house? I was vacuuming and the power went out in various areas around my condo. I think I have isolated the breaker and want to change it but I do not...

In some condos/apartments the main breakers are located outside. This is because the meter and incoming service are some distance from the local panel. Perhaps your breaker isn't bad, but the additional load of the vacuum caused it to "trip" Unlike some brands the Bryant don't show a trip indication other than the handle moving. Try turning this breaker completely off, ( if it was tripped, it will click) then turn it back on. If you do locate the main outside, and decide to change the breaker inside, be sure to "lock out" the main disconnect while you're working on the panel.

Is there another breaker i can use instead of challenger breaker less expensive

A Challenger 20 Amp single pole breaker shouldn't be priced much different than any other brand of breaker if you buy them online and not at Home Depot. That is if it isn't the Zinsco style like these:

According to Eaton's cross reference a BR 120 will cross with a C 120. You can find the cross reference here:
http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@ee/documents/content/1081453631966.pdf
Lowes shows the BR 120 at 3.47

They look like these:

We have a westinghouse box and it has a 200 amp main breaker, but we cannot find a 200 amp breaker anywhere. Do you have any idea where we can locate one??

You should get the exact breaker number to be safe. Westinghouse is not Eaton. Here is one example.

There are many places online. 200A breakers rarely fail, unless loose connections on lugs (AL WIRE) cause overheating.

Sounds like you have lost one leg of your power

Think of it like this

You an upside down "Y" at the top of your breaker panel
220 - 240 volts come in the Y and break in half 120 volts to each leg of the "Y"
A 220 Volt breaker straddles both legs a 110 volt breaker only contacts one leg
I suspect that you have lost one leg
Possibly at the main breaker ( top most)( main disconnect) in your panel
If you have a tester with the capacity to test 240 you can test the two top lugs where the main wire comes in Test them together That is one probe of your tester on each wire you should show 240+/- volts
Then you can move down through the panel 120 +/- on each leg
Hope this helps if you need more just let me know
