Question about Maytag Kitchen Ranges

I have a Maytag MGR5775QDS. the broler and oven use the same igniter and tube burner on this model. The broiler works fine, but when I use the "bake" function, the oven doen't heat up. The igniter doesn't glow I've already replaced the igniter, but still the broiler works but the bake function doesn't work. Please help.

I don't want to call Maytag. What are ther possible problems?

  • pieriep May 03, 2010

No, there are no error codes.

Assuming it is the clock / controller, can you tell me if it is difficult to replace the clock / controller? Can you offer any advice or instructions to do so?

In this case - I would point the finger at the switching bake relay on the controller itself. This part is also known as a "Clock"

Seen HERE in the expanded parts diagram as part # 2

CLICK HERE to see/order the Clock.

CLICK HERE to order a tad cheaper.

Really - all you need is a phillips screwdriver.

You can have it replaced in 20 minutes if you have never done it before.

Disassemble/Remove the housing (by removing screws labeled 10 in the diagram supplied), unplug the clock, remove the screws (this one may have plastic pressure tabs) holding it in place.

    install the reverse of removal.

    Thanks!!

Hi since you insist, check the control if it is working, check and see if any wire is burnt and finally remove the bake element and test it to see if it is working...

    Take care

This could be two possible problems. The igniter maybe bad, but doubt it. The igniter works both the oven and broiler, I believe on this model. The first thing I suspect is the switch in your wiring harness. The harness has a switch attached to it for each manifold. The switch for your oven maybe out.

First I want to commend you for your giving us good information to start with!
So-- we know we have gas, and we know the Broiler Valve and ignitor works-- Good observation!

However-- we have no ignitor (No bright red/Yellow glow)-- like you go for the Broiler-- right?

Well, we can NOT get ignition on the main burner-- unless we have the ignitor for the main burner getting hot, and then the gas valve to that burner can light, and give you heat...

Soo-- Likely we have an ignitor failure for the Main burner---

Do you have a warranty on the stove?
Do you have a service person qualified to tackle this job?
There will be electrical work, and parts obtainment issues to deal with now---
I suggest you call the local service people for this stove, and tell that that you need to have the main gas burner ignotor replaced for this stove model number-- and see what they tell you.

Let me know if I can help more--

this model is not a dual fuel, and you do have a heating problem, there are two burners, a bake burner and a broil burner, both have ignitors. You have a bad bake ignitor.
