Vertical lines appears when the laptop( hp dv5 1002au) starts, and the harddisc light constantly glow

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

It sounds like you may possibly have two problems here. (1) have your recently dropped your laptop or had a shock to the screen? (2) Do you hear any disk activity? Do you have indexing on or some type of scanning software? Can you use the machine otherwise with the drive light glowing?

The vertical lines mean that there could be an issue with your graphics processor, they sometimes comes loose when they overheat . would assume somebody has to open the Laptop and re-flow or replace your logic boardt. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there is a third party HP Repair Service. However, if you want to do it yourself, the part is available on ebay. Here's an HP Repair guide. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you.

Vertical lines

It sounds like dead pixels in the LCD display. the only way to get rid of the lines is to replace the Display unit in the laptop. This can be a very expensive repair so I'd check it in with an IT professional first.

Hp compaq 7620s wont start ( constant blinking blue light )

The adapter output appears correct, the batteries often work in that voltage range. But the problem you have is the motherboard, the HP line has constant trouble with the main board, only option is board replacement.

Very thin vertical red line just appeared on my monitor. It is about 5-6 inches from left side.

LCD is starting to go bad. Anytime lines start appearing randomly or constantly, the pixels are going bad so the screen needs replacing.

Vertical multicolored lines appear. Sometimes there are couple of vertical white stips and vertical lines

Connect an external monitor to your laptop. If the problem appears only on the display of the laptop and not on the external monitor in the same time that means the video card is ok and the problem could be : the screen of the laptop or the invertor or the cable that attaches the screen to the mainboard. Have it checked by a professional.

Display on laptop

Have you tried plugging in an external monitor to see if the display is ok. I suspect you will find external display is perfect and only the LCD on the laptop is affected.

I have a laptop that the "tab" welds are not connecting properly on the lcd and 1/3 of the display is multiple lines or black. Pressing on the top of the lcd changes the colors on the display but does not fix the problem, I had to replace the lcd.
