If you see a message box that says "Power Saving Mode" after pressing the power button, then it simply means that the monitor/display is not detecting the computer. Check the connection/cable between the display and the computer and make sure your computer is not in standby mode by moving your mouse.
From what you stated in your problem, you dont need a inverter or a bulb. If you have any image like the message box displayed then its working fine. It just isnt seeing any signal changes on the input and therefore goes into power saving mde. Try another cable or hook it up to a different computer to check the cable.

Computer required restarting due to problems with mouse. Once computer was restarted gateway monitor would not work

Not enough information. Please describe any monitor activity when
you turn it on, do this while the computer is still off, unplug monitor, then
plug back in. It should start automatically, then show the gateway logo, then
go blank for several seconds, then show no input signal box, then shut down on its
own. If it fails to do this it is probably that the power printed circuit board
is failing, not delivering the proper power to the main board and/or the back
lamps. One can have this board repaired inexpensively by a qualified electronic
technician.

I turn on my computer and monitor, the monitor display (Power Saving Mode) in a small box. Thanks Augusto/PT

The monitor is probably not receiving any video input; this is typical and you may have the same message with no computer attached.
Try reseating your video cable first but it could also be that your video card (or chipset if on board) has failed. The video input of the monitor is a rare point of failure.

Pavilion Dv1000 monitor won't show anything

Power management lets you reduce your Notebook power consumption. Your Notebook has two power management modes:
  • Hibernation is an energy-saving feature and safeguard that saves information to the hard drive, then turns off your Notebook. When you resume from Hibernation, your information returns to the screen where you were previously working. Your Notebook hibernates when the Power button is pressed, when the battery has little power left, or when your Notebook (operating on battery power) is in Sleep mode for more than one hour.
  • Sleep, also called Standby, is an energy-saving feature that reduces power to system components that are not being used. When Sleep is initiated, your information is saved in Random Access Memory (RAM), and the screen is cleared. Your Notebook is still on, but the display is blank. When you resume from Suspend, your information returns to the screen where you were previously working.
Automatically put your notebook into hibernation Windows can automatically put your computer into Hibernate mode after a specified period of inactivity. Or Windows can detect when your batteries are running low, and then automatically put your computer in Hibernate mode to save your work before the battery fails. NOTE: Using Power Options in Control Panel, you can adjust any power management option that your notebook's unique hardware configuration supports. Because these options may vary widely from computer to computer, the options described may differ from what you see. Power Options automatically detects what is available on your computer and shows you only the options that you can control. To automatically put your computer into hibernation:
  1. In Category view, click Start , click Control Panel , click Performance and Maintenance , and then click Power Options . In Classic view, click Start , click Control Panel , and then click the Power Options icon.
  2. Click the Hibernate tab, select the Enable hibernate support check box, and then click Apply . Figure 1: Enable hibernation check box c00035872.gif
  3. Click the Power Schemes tab, and then select a time period in System hibernates. Your computer hibernates after it has been idle for the specified amount of time.
Manually put your notebook into hibernation This feature is available only on notebooks with the Windows XP operating system installed.
  1. In Category view, click Start , click Control Panel , click Performance and Maintenance , and then click Power Options . In Classic view, click Start , click Control Panel , and then click the Power Options icon.
  2. Click the Hibernate tab, and then select the Enable hibernate support check box. NOTE: If the Hibernate tab is not available, your computer does not support this feature.
  3. Click OK to close the Power Options dialog box.
  4. Click Start , and then click Turn Off Computer . In the Turn off computer dialog box, hold down the Shift key. The Stand By button will change to Hibernate. Click Hibernate .

Computer making noise

Monitor clicks, pops, or makes other noises. Issue: Monitor clicks, pops, or makes other noises.
Cause: This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities:
  1. Monitor degaussing.
  2. Monitor changing resolution.
  3. Monitor syncing with the video card.
  4. Monitor warming up.
Solution: Noise when turned on or off It is normal for standard computer CRT monitors to make a click, pop, crackle, hum, buzz, or other type of noises when they are first turned on or turned off.
Noise when monitor goes into standby mode When the monitor enters a "standby mode" or "power savings mode" this is similar to the monitor being turned off. It is completely normal for the monitor to make a noise when the monitor enters this mode.
Noise when opening Microsoft Windows or other operating system or when opening a game When a computer opens its operating system, for example, a computer opening Microsoft Windows or when a user runs a computer game it is very common that the monitor will need to switch its resolution of the operating system or game. When switching resolutions it is normal for the computer monitor to make some type of noise and/or for the computer monitor to flick or flash.
Noise during normal operation If the computer monitor click, pops, or flashes while it is being used this is not normal operation. It is very likely that the monitor may be failing or a component within the monitor has already failed and could also potentially be a fire hazard. We highly recommend that the monitor be repaired, replaced, and/or looked at by a qualified technician.
Additional information:
  • See document CH000302 for additional information and other noises that may come from

Emachine 15' lcd monitor

Hi,

Your query - "can the monitor work with an older HP computer?"

Normally yes, assuming that there is no hardware fault. The message is an indicator that somehow the settings of the display of the old HP computer does not match that of the Emachine 15' LCD monitor.

Perhaps what you can do is to run the old HP PC in Safe Mode (press F8 before Windows starts), using the arrow keys, select top mode setting in the Menu which is Safe Node, hit enter. Windows should then start and normally should be viewable no matter what settings the monitor can handle. On Safe Mode Windows, right click on any clear area of the desktop, click on properties, Settings tab, move the Screen resolution to the left most position, set the color quality to the lowest possible choice. Click on Advanced button, click on Monitor tab, set Screen Refresh Rate to lowest possibler, OK, OK, reboot.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back if things worked out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards
