Does anyone have a reason this is happening? Can it be repaired or should the camera be dumped? I tried a new battery so it wasn't that.

I didn't drop this camera, didn't leave it in the heat or the cold. It's a few years old, and I can't turn it on completely. "high camera temperature" camera will be turned off. Doesn't even work with it being plugged in the computer.

I cam across the ad here a few mins ago and was going to reply cause i was having the same issue, well i took my battery out and charged it thinking that it might have got cold. no that wasnt it so i was mad and i was thinking o what the heck its not working now so i took it and banged it in the palm of my hand on the sides of the camera and the top and bottom not the back or front. this done something to it cause it came back on and asked for date and time stamp lol i might have found a way to fix a head ache after all lol. please if you do this dont hit it to hard for it could mess the lcd screen up. just a few taps on the bottom, top and both sides. and let me know if this works for you also.

Kodak online tech support couldn't help or explain the problem just offered a discount on a new camera or I could send it to an authorized service center (I'm sure it's worth that!)...tried the bumping on top, bottom and sides....It works now!

Time to trade up. Due to spare part shortage this model is no longer repaired.
Instead KODAK offers a trade up option where you will have the opportunity to trade up to a newer model 25-30% cheaper than the market price.

first of all, this is not a solution. i think your camera's problem almost same with mine. i think your inner lens of your camera isn't totally opened, and it is same with my camera, which is cannot opened at all, maybe you dropped it or exposed it to water. if you go to kodak web site they suggest that you must take it back to the factory.
