Kicker zx650.4 amp turned off and on

I have a kicker zx650.4 amp connected with 4 type r's alpine 100 rms each and 2 alpine tweets 50 rms each.the amp burnt out 2 times cause of improper installation and improper service so i sent it to kicker service and they fixed it.now im using it with no problems for about a month.yesterday i was listening some rap music and suddently the amp turned off.(the strange thing is that the power cable passes first from the kicker amp then to the other amp for the sub and when the kicker turned off the other amp was still working).i shutted dowm the system and then turned it back on and the zx650 was working again with no turning off's.it has been one day and i havent had any turn off's so im wondering..does the amp's protection saved my **** or something is still going wrong and i have to sent it back for service??

Could be a couple of things going wrong. could have overheated and shutdown to protect it. could have hand to many incoming wattage/voltage from your head unit and shutdown. could be that the ohms rating on your speakers is to low or that the speakers could have heated up and bumped the guilds and caused it to shutdown. don't know if you know how ohms works. but here is an exp. if you have and have that is rated at 4 ohm stable and that is the lostes ohm recomened for it. and you have two 4 ohm rated subs. you can run them and run them with no problem as long as you don't bridge them. run them off of the same port on the amp. when bridging them it devides the ohms in half. so 2 4ohms would become 2 ohm. 2 8ohm would become 4 ohm etc. if you are running 4 speakers in pair that are 8 ohm each the total together would be 2ohm. hope this helps. try to duplacate the conditions that was going the other day when it shut down same bass settings same song etc and see if it happens again if so try unhooking one of the speakers and try it again if it don't do it it was overloading it if it was overloading and you know its right ohms etc. send it in sorry this is so long.

What amp would be better to use with what speakers/sub? I have a KAC-7202 kenwood 920W maximum power (150wX2 RMS, 4ohms) (230wX2 RMS 2ohms) and then the other amp I have is a Alpine MRP-M500 mono power...

I'm using that Alpine right now for 2-12" subs and I have compared it to 6 or 7 other amps this month and most were 4 channel 150Watt/Channel Bridged to 300Watts x 2 and found the Alpine to be superior in both sound quality and loudness. The Alpine has also not turned off even with full volume for hours at a time, Very solid amp I was very surprised due to it's size!

Got jl300/2 amp confused which subwoofer sounds good

Hello drsubhakar26,

JL W6's will perform well with from 150-600 watts RMS. W7's with from 150-500 watts. Less expensive Alpine Type R's work OK with from 200-500 watts RMS. Either of the brands will sound good. None of them will perform to their full potential with 300 watts RMS. Powering any sub with a 2-channel amp is a compromise. A monoblock is more efficient.

Hope this helps.

Got a 12"kicker L74ohm sub and sony xm-D9001GTR mono amp

Hello juan_penaloz,

The Kicker L7 has an RMS power range of from 50-750 watts and a maximum power handling capability of 1,500 watts so your Sony amp will power it OK. A more powerful monoblock like the Alpine MRP-M1000 or the Kicker 08ZX750.1 would provide even more power and could operate safely at 2ohms.

You have the voice coils wired properly for the Sony amp. It's OK to have the sub impedance higher, but you definitely do not want it lower than the 4ohms the amp is rated at in bridged mode.

Hope this helps.

Installing two amps

No, thats what you don't what to do. Even if you have 2 matching amps you don't do that. Every amp puts out different, and for 2 subs, you want to play at the the same time. If your only running 2 10's, I personal would just run the alpine (it's a mono amp made especially for subs) thats plenty for what you have. make sure you bridge them to get the full response. And your other amp i would use for your highs or mids, but run it @ stereo , which is 300 w @ 4 ohms. (Note: 600w @ 2ohms would be bridged and would play in Mono)

Building Competition stereo's is a big hobby of mine.

What amp will push 2 kicker 15inch cvr's

Hello herb31,

Kicker lists the RMS power handling range of the CVR's from 100-500 watts, with a peak power capability of 1000 watts. There are lots of monoblock amps within that range. It just depends on how loud you want them and how much you want to spend.

In the low range, an amp like the Alpine MRP-M500 will deliver 250 watts to each sub at 2 ohms. And it only costs $179. Currently, the MRP-M500 is out of stock at Crutchfield. I just bought the last one. So my 2nd recommendation would be the Sony XM-1S, which has the same power rating and according to Crutchfield is no slouch either. It's also $179. I really like the Sony, too. It has a small footprint that makes it easy to find a convenient mounting location. Both the Sony and the Alpine are CEA-2006 compliant, so you can be sure that the manufacturer provided specifications are not overrated. Assuming that your vehicle electrical system can deliver the current, both the Sony and the Alpine will deliver an honest 250 watts RMS to each of your Kickers. And 250 watts will make them kick pretty darned good.

In the medium power range, consider either the JL Audio G Series G1700 which delivers 700 watts into 2 ohms. It costs $419 at Crutchfield. Or perhaps the Kicker 08ZX750 with 750 watts at a cost of $399.

To push the CVR's really hard, close to their 500 watt RMS maximum power range, look for an amp that delivers 1000 watts. In this range, you will definitely some heavy-duty wiring, electrical system upgrades, perhaps a 2 farad capacitor, and be ready to spend at least $600 on the amp. Your best combination of power and price would be another Alpine, the PDX-1.1000M, at $799. If you buy one from Crutchfield, they will throw in a 4-gauge amp wiring kit. And if you use a "friend referral code", such as mine, which is p7sdj-hrx8q-9800g, and your order is at least $200, you'll get another $20 discount. And I get a $20 credit toward a future order.

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate as "FixYa".

What is best amp to run 2 12 inch cvr's

12In Kicker CVRs
are Dual Voice Coil, and You can run each voice coil around 200 Watts RMS

So each sub will have a 400 Watt RMS and 800 Watts peak.

Now since you have 2, Your total will be 800 Watts RMS and 1600 Watts Peak.

I would get really any amp that sits at around 800-1000 Watts RMS.

These are kicker but they are low end so i wouldnt push them to the extreme.

1000-1200 Watts RMS Max and but keep the Gain down on the amp. They will hit no doubt but i wouldnt push these subs or you will be disapointed in the long run.

I would get a Fosgate or MTX amp.

You can get any amp really but find something right around 1000 Watts RMS and it will push those well.

You can go mono block or a 2 channel, just depends on how you want to wire them.

Be careful though. If your running them bridged right now with your mono block, do not run them parallel bridged on a 1000w RMS Amp, you will blow them so fast lol

(RMS = Root Mean Square. Or in other words is the continuous wattage being sent from the amplifier to the subwoffers)

As long as the crossover keeps the frequency going to the tweeters within a safe range (I'd say about 500hz+, read the box or look it up by model number) they should be just fine. That is what the crossover is for.
