Hi, your Motor has gone! You will need to replace it. Not an easy task but possible. First you would need to get a replacement motor. If you would like to do this yourslef order the Motor and then write back on here and we will show you how its done.

You can call Dyson who will send an engineer. It costs around £70

There may be an electrical problem somewhere. It could be a bad plug, wire, connection, pcb, motor, etc. Electric problems can be difficult to diagnose and may require professional help from a qualified technician.

Dyson upright vacuum with kinked cord kept stopping. There was a loud bang and smoke and the vacuum stopped. Has the motor blown up, or can it be repaired?

This happens a lot the supply cable bending or damaged shorts out causing smoke and a bang if fitted with or backed up with a high amperage fuse .
check length of supply cable if you find damage/ burning smell,
either replace cable, or you could fit a inline rubber socket and plug by cutting out damaged part of cable and fitting female part of plug first into supply cable 1. then on the vacuum side of cable fit the male part of plug 2 . supply 1. -----o o----------2.--- vac
using insulation tape if you like you can tape plug and socket together to stop it pulling apart, normally cable damage will not damage the vacuum cleaner. and fit the correct fuse rating for the machine 1000 watts at 240v divide 240 into 1000 =4.166 amps
so with a 1000 w load you do not need a 13 a fuse fitted 6 amp fuse should be ok. or go online and see what is recommended re fuse size for appliance ,

Armature sparking is visable

It probably will need a new motor, it maybe safest to take it to a professional.

Plugged my Dyson in this morning, switched it on and power came on for not even a second and died. No power what so ever to dyson - checked my house sockets, changed fuse. Still not working - dead as a...

It is either your power cable, cable rewind mechanism or your motor.
Try switching it on, and wiggling the lead near the plug and see if it fires up. If it does, remove the moulded plug and fit a standard plug.
If not, likely suspect is the motor or the cable rewind mechanism. Neither are an amateur job. If you are in the UK, you could send it to Manchester Dyson for either to be fixed. Carriage will cost you about £10 each way. A motor replacement will cost around £65 and a cable rewind mechanism about £45-£50.

It sparked and died! the filters were clean and there were no clogs the machine is about 6 years old! I love this vacuum is there any fix?

Most likely the motor has failed, or possibly the switch.

Replacement motors and switches are avaible on eBay for about £25 / £5, however replacing either requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.

We were having issues with its lack of suction - we took it to an authorized Dyson repair shop and now sparks are shooting out and its smoking! What the heck is wrong now?

SO MUCH FOR REPAIR SHOPS. WHEN THEY PUT THE VACUME BACK TOGETHER THEY MUST OF PUT IT BACK TOGETHER WHERE SOME THING IS RUBBING TO CAUSE THE SPARKING YOU SHOULD RETURN IT TO THE SHOP AND COMPLAIN, THEY SHOULD NOT CHARGE FOR THEIR MISTAKE

It's as if it isn't plugged in at all.

Try a different electricity outlet first. If that doesn't solve the problem, more than likely it is the power switch which is not engaging. It could also be the motor but I doubt it since you probably did not see smoke or smell any burning smells. Call the Dyson Helpline, they will refer you to an authorized dealer in your area. The repair dealer will inspect the switch to see why it is not engaging and fix it for you. The dealer will also be able to fix or replace your motor if it turns out that it is the motor.

Smoking

There's something wrong with the motor. Don't turn the vacuum cleaner on again - call the Dyson helpline - they'll let you know where you can take your vacuum cleaner to, to have it repair - you definitely need a repair.
