The connection may be loose. Try buying another HDMI cable. The sell very cheap (like $10) on Amazon.

My emerson tv say device control inactive

John, I've ran into this issue a couple of times myself. In most cases, there are easy fixes to the issue. #1, Does your TV have multiple HDMI inputs? They may be labeled HDMI1, or HDMI2, etc. I know this sounds strange, but many people don't realize that the signal source is important. #2, Connect the cord, from another device that you know works(laptop-monitor) to eliminate the possibility that your HDMI cord is bad. #3, (Probably most common) The PS3 is not the most stable platform when using the HDMI cord. Remember that the PS3 was one of the "pioneering" platforms using the HDMI connection.As such, the "auto-detect" feature is sometimes confused when switching between RCA inputs, and HDMI input. (Happens every time actually) To fix this, try a video reset on your PS3 system. It's fast, easy, and doesn't effect anything except the video/audio settings. I'll put in a link to get you started in that direction. It is the same with all models of PS3. Good luck! ^^

When the xbox is turned on and starts, the screen starts flickering and blinking, sometimes one or two times sometimes constantly. Its the 250gb call of duty special edition so only just over 1 year old

I've had this problem, and am wondering if you use a HDMI cable to connect it to the TV.
If so;
1st try a different HDMI port on your TV if available. If you do and continue to have the problem then move to step 2 If not...go to next step.
2nd if no other HDMI port available then it's probably the HDMI cable causing the probelm and you need to replace it.
I did and no problem since.
You can buy them on Ebay cheap

My hdmi stoped working all the athers still how get hdmi working again

Try resetting the video.
While the Ps3 is off (solid red led)
Press and hold the power button until you hear the SECOND BEEP, quickly release.
Let me know if that helps.

Bad sound through HDMI

Is it only in Games or Movies?

Try checking the cables. (obvious I know but it must be said).

On the XMB (Cross Media Bar), go to settings on the left. Scroll down to "Sound Settings"

Choose "Audio Output Settings", then "HDMI", then "Auto"

If that doesn't fix it then choose manual and the most basic outputs first;
-Linear PCM 2ch. 44.1KHz
and
-Linear PCM 2ch. 48KHz

Depending on your surround sound setup your could get away with other options as well. Fist determine if your setup is 5.1 or 7.1, DTS or Dolby Digital. Then start with the lower KHz settings and work your way up.

Hdmi

I can't be exactly sure without more information, but it sounds like you ps3 is outputting from another port. My ps3 originally was outputting from the component/composite cable port so in order to use the hdmi output I had to do a soft reset. That makes the ps3 sense what cable is plugged into it and automatically output through that port instead of using whatever is the saved setting.

With your ps3 turned on hold down the power button for a few second until it beeps and flashes 3 times (should be about 5 seconds). You might have to try it a few times to get it to work, but you should get picture and be able to adjust the settings on the ps3.
