DOES THE APPLE ALLOW YOU TO PLAY MUSIC WITHOUT THE EARPLUGS?

The iPod does not have built-in speakers. You can plug external speakers into the earplug jack.

My sound works normally when I do not have my earplugs plugged in but when i do the sound is about 33% of what it should be

Now I will say that just upgrading your headphone's alone will certainly improve the ipod touch's sound greatly but if you want a proper more dare I say "TRUE" sound then you can't go wrong with investing in something like the "NU Force Icon" & make sure you pair them with the correct type of headphone's... something clear & true maybe like the "Monster copper's" or check out some "Grado's" or whatever takes your fancy as theres plenty of choice's you can make in the Headphone market & even in the portable headphone amp market too.
But IMHO the ipod touch 3g with its supplied bog standard apple headphones might either give you a sore head or might make you want to chop off your own head as they sound that bad even with a lossless track or 320kb mp3.

So once you add your preferred choices of portable headphone amp & headphone combo = you should be quite happy with the resulting sound oh & also please don't mess with the ipods EQ settings as on FLAT

Music only comes from the left headphone

This is a common problem with the headphone jack - if you google "ipod 30Gb headphone jack repair" there are both places that will replace the jack and places that will sell you the new "ribbon" connector and hold switch and jack (it's all one unit). If you're comfortable opening the iPod and have a TINY (#000) jeweler's philips head screwdriver you can replace the unit with no soldering. It helps if you have patience and small fingers and good light; you'll have to fasten the ribbon connector carefully. I paid under $10 for my last part but I've seen the same part for $30+, so caveat emptor. For that price they should put it in for you...

My phone doesnt work right

It happened to me the other day... My phone worked for a call, then I took a nap with my headphones plugged into the phone. Then, I bleive what happened was I pulled the headphones out without turning the music off. Then my phone had the same problem. Also, my music would not play without headphones.

I tried to goto Verizon today and they gave me the runaround. Then tonight, I had the phone plugged into a soundboard at my bar to play music and I pulled the cord without turning the music off and it started playing out of the phone as normal. Then I tried calling my friend and it worked. The text problem went away too.

Right earplug is shorted out. sound goes in and out. how do i fix it?

The right ear plug internal wire is cut off due to wear and tear. This is common problem with earplug especially if
if you pull by the wire of your earplugs. The solution is to
cut open the wirings of your right earplug and reconnect,
resolder it, and tape the bare wires, to restore the sound. However, it will be unsighty. So, the best thing
to do is to buy another.

It sounds like it's definitely a problem with your iPod. . . Sometimes the connectors on the inside of the unit can go bad. I've not heard now this can be fixed though. I would try calling apple and seeing it the unit is still under warranty.

Music not coming from both earplugs.

Buy another- seriously. You can view this video if you want to try to replace the headphone jack, but you will probably cause more damage in the process:
