If you still have the red Led light on the scope's body, then...I ended up replacing the hand controller.

Probably your hand controller cable is broken. First thing to try is a new hand controller cable.

Also check the small watch style battery inside the LNT module.

If a new cable and a new battery do not fix this then it an internal circuit gone bad. Only Meade can repair this:

Try the new cable first.

I have a 10 year old Meade LX10 with Magellan computer. Do I need a separate power supply for the declination motor?

No, just one--- this scope runs off of 12 volt DC battery like a car starter battery pack-- that has a cigarette lighter style 12 volt cable. This plugs into the power console on the telescope. You need the proper 12 volt cable which you can get from Meade and other telescope retailers--

First thing to check or replace is the hand controller cable.

Does the red light come on -- on the control panel. If yes the scope is receiving power but it's not going to the hand controller. I have had two Meade cables fail. A longer one is available on

www.scopestuff.com here:

However these scopes do have an issue with blowing out the capacitors on the power circuit board. To repair the scope must be returned to Meade, or you need to find a local electronic repair technician and be willing to remove the board yourself and take it to them.

Try the new cable first-- before you panic.

Problem with alignment of Meade LX90 8" telescope

Start from scratch-

RESET the hand controller.

Calibrate motors using the same power source you will use outside.

Re-train the drives

Calibrate sensors on Polaris

Use either the 110 volt power cord, or buy a 12 volt power pack and the proper Meade 12 volt cable. (www.scopestuff.com carries the right 12 volt cable)

If your scope is NOT the LNT or GPS model you must level the tripod before you align. Go to home depot and buy the $3 small plastic two way bubble level, or the bulls-eye style bubble level.

Further trouble, I suggest going to the LX90 Yahoo group forum, and asking questions there.

Good Luck

Total loss of power from battery compartment

There are a couple of things you can try to get it working again. First double check the battery orientation so that they are in the right direction then pry out the battery terminal tabs slightly to get better contact.

If it still doesn't work, try connecting to an external battery or AC adapter if you have one. If it works that would eliminate the power switch as a problem and isolate it to a battery compartment problem.

I own a couple of the Nexstar telescopes and I only use the internal batteries for quick testing. I always go with either an external battery or power adapter when I'm using it outside for observing. It gives you more consistent and reliable power than using the small batteries. The external battery I use has a ******** it, so I droop it across my tripod. The added weight creates better stability.

I hope this helps.

Good luck and clear skies!

LX6 Hand controller....error message

If the hand controller on the LX6 has stopped working you have a problem since meade does not support this very old telescope. My only suggestion would be to place an ad on www.astromart.com looking for a new hand controller.

If the error message indicates a "motor fault" make sure you have a good power supply and or fresh batteries-- as low voltage will cause a motor fault error.

Later you said it was an LX90 LNT-- ?? so which scope do you actually own???
