Mike has wiring problems. Check for breaks in cord and where the plug goes into the unit. If not original mike then has incorrect wiring for the radio and will need to be changed for config

I had the same problem every time plugged the microphone into the radio the radio would squeal. The microphone use to work on the radio too, but suddenly developed a squeal taking out the recieve on the radio every time I plugged it into the radio. I checked the microphone wiring and it was correct and I even tried the microphone on another radio and it worked fine. I eventually found the problem being in the radio. If your Galaxy 959 radio squeals like a pig when you attach it to the radio. then it's a the small transistor on the small square circuit board that the microphone plugs into inside the radio. Remove the transistor and replace it with a new one and this will fix the radio from squealing everytime you plug your microphone. (HINT & TIP: its a small PNP transistor and can be replaced with larger one)

Keyed the the mic on my galaxy 959 and nothing happened. No transmit light, needle didn't move, just like the mike wasn't plugged in. Unplugged and re-plugged. Replaced the mic, didn't help. ????????

did you turn the radio on? There are a lot of possibilities . Could be a final or just a simple fix like a diode but without a service manual don't attempt to fix it . You can get the service manual at www.cbtricks.com .

I keyed the mic on my galaxy 959 and nothing happened. transmit light didn't come on, needle didn't move, nothing happened. It's like the mic isn't plugged in. I replaced the mic, didn't help. ?????

You might have it flipped to SSB instead of AM on one of the front mounted switched. It's the switch right under the freq. counter.

The switch right above the volume needs to be in the power mode, and the GNF switch needs to be in the CB mode-not on PA.

Microphone not working

I think it is safe to say 90% of radio problems are microphone. You get a cheap one when you by just about any radio. I believe you are seeing the meter move but not getting audio from your talkback. No matter remove the mic jack plug from radio. For you particular radio looking at the end of the jack notice the small raised numbers. These female connectors no matter the mic type wired for this radio model has the following wires connected or in your case disconnected. 1-(Ground) 2- (Audio) 3-(Transmit) and 4- (Receive).
A RK56 mic would be my suggestion Astatic 636L the second choice a little cheaper but audio it not a crisp.
Don't waste your money a repairing the mic or buying a diesel or road pro or even a cdl mic like a cdl 56 or that Skythumper they are RoadKing 56 wannabees. Sorry about the rant my point is RK56 is Quality.

Galaxy DX 98VHP meter stopped moving . There is no swr reading, nothing. Even with a seperatye meter atached or a dummy load, the meter on the galxy is not working. Did I lose all power?

You appear to be aware of you antenna system with the separate meter attached so the tells me you dont punish a radio with an high swr. I am just guessing red wire/solder in mic cord at plug given that it is a side mic mic jack.
Stock mic
1- Shield (Ground)
2- Yellow (Audio)
3- Red (Transmit)
4- White (Receive)

Have new dx959 doesnt get out very far talking 100yrds or so use rdking 56 mic mic works fine on old radio pc 78 and gets out fine also are 959 radios ok or junk has good reception

The DX959 has an output power setting knob. It's located next to the channel selector and is labeled RF Power. Turned counterclockwise will reduce output power. Turned clockwise will increase output power. Your switch is probably turned all the way counterclockwise resulting in low transmit volume.
Also, make sure the wiring for the RK59 is correct for the Galaxy. Even though it's a 4 pin plug, the pinouts may be different for the Uniden and Galaxy radios. Do a Google search for mic pinouts for your two radios to check.

The squeal in this model is a famous problem. If you look at the circuit board, you'll see there are a few places where it looks as if someone kinda forgot to put in a ground screw -- even to the point that there are threaded holes in the casting just begging to be filled by the little screws used elsewhere nearby. Take 3 or 4 similar screws, put them in the remaining holes, and make sure all (including the existing ones) are snug. It seems there just weren't enough ground points for all the RF swirling around on the solder side of the board, so there's a bit of RF feedback on this radio. And as long as you've got about 16 amps of clean DC, you're fine; the power leads are correctly fused at 20 amps. BTW, the power amp module in this model is really only spec'd at 144-148; if you're running an odd "MARS or CAP" split, the PA brick can get way unhappy. HTH, -- Barney --
