Question about Hunter Ceiling Fan Light Remote Control

Open Question

Have a Hunter Douglas ceiling fan with remote

Have a 5 yr old. large hanging pendant-type Hunter Douglas ceiling ffan 3 sppeds and light. Lost remote and was not able to use anything other than light. Since old model, I then purchased Universal HDouglas remote. This helped with fan speed (L-M-High) and overall use however it will not change direction of blades. Each time we turn the fan on it unfortunately turns counterclockwise (winter). Without the help of a remote how can I switch direction on ceiling fan to turn clockwise for summer? No visible switch on housing unit. Handy once informed. Any advise for this specific type of fan? Even the user-manual found online fails to mention blade direction instruction other than use of remote.

SOURCE: ceiling fan

there is a run capacitor inside the motor thats probably bad but 99% of the time its just not worth fixing these things unless you really like the style and color. Good Luck

SOURCE: Hunter ceiling fan remote doesn't work

counterclockwise for cooling. This blows air down. The electronics board maybe burned out. There is a small fuse and capacitor in the fan. You can buy parts for this fan. http://www.eceilingfans.com/

Sounds like the remote receiver units (located where the mains connect to the fans) took a surge and have failed.

Motors work with magnets. These may be permanent, or more commonly elecromagnets. These are the rotor, and the field magnets. Another type of motor just uses a field magnet and iduces flux in the rotor.

Either way, it sounds like one of the main coil windings has either burnt out or mechanically broken.

If you want to remove it and test the coils with a meter (check resistance of each) this should show the fault.

If a coils burn't out. it's scrap .

SOURCE: fan direction

I winter it blows up to catch the warm air from the ceiling and bring it down. In summer it blows down to cool you off by evaporation.

Hunter douglas fan

Try changing the frequencies in the receiver & transmitter. If that doesn't work, you probably need a new receiver.

I have a Hunter fan with remote. The fan or the light comes on by itself with no one around

See my post below: (Sorry, we're in the same boat)

Hunter ceiling fan with remote, have 5, 4 are seriously impaired! Lights dim to half strengh after variable time 10 seconds-30 minutes. And lights or fan turns on randomly (come home & fan on full blast), and one in which the lights won't dim (just blinks when try to dim)! Hunter "kinda" admits there is serious problem with remote but doesn't have a solution. Tells people to try changing to different code due to possible interference (pain in **** to change code on ceiling base!), was totally ineffective. Then replaced receiver in ceiling base (another total pain) in 3 fans with new ones sent Hunter, still totally useless. Hunter's suggestion, don't use the remote, just use the pull chain. If I had wanted a pull chain fan, I'd have bought a pull chain fan. TOTALLY USELESS! Moral of story: If you want a remote ceiling fan (my friend found out that all their remotes are made by the same company in Taiwan), don't buy Hunter!!!!! P.S. I found a "Kinda"- fix for the lights dimming to half strenth. After turning on the lights, wait 1 second, then dim lights slightly, they will then stay on the strength that you dim them to. - P.P.S. When I changed the receiver in the one where the lights won't dim, it "solved" that problem...Now it has the same problem as the others, lights or fan turn on randomly!

Hunter ceiling fan remote problem

You will most likely need to replace the receiver with a new one from hunter. The receiver is actually a complete controller and contains the receiver, relays (which you hear clicking) and starting condensors(large capacitors which hold a charge that is "dumped" over the windings to get the motor to start from a dead stop). These appear to be pretty tightly assembled unless you have a desire to start replacing parts "off the board."

Lights are on all the time, fan doesnt work, remote does not work

I have changed the remotes on 5 Hunter fans in the last 3 months. They have a problem with how some of them mount, that makes them drop down and vibrate loose. If you do not have a wall switch for it, you may want to go to pull chains, or just replace the remote. It is NOT the controller you hold in your hand, but the part in the fan. (never the easy way right?) The remote is not hard to change, but you DO have to let the fan hang from the holder on the ceiling bracket, It gets too heavy to hold while you change the remote.
All but one of the remotes I have changed, came from a mass market type of builder/handyman store, and they have just replaced the part at no charge.
