I need to connect my old speakers to my new Samsung monitor. No instructions in manual. thanks, barb

You don't connect speakers to the monitor, you connect it to the tower of the computer. If I'm not understanding your question right then please be more specific. If your monitor has speakers, you connect the audio cord to the tower then to the monitor or vise versa.

LCD speakers are really not that good, specially for smaller than 42". but it should not be that faint if your hardly hearing a sound, try to get a replacement unit.

I am unable to hear through the speakers on the monitor. How would I go about fixing this? It is hooked up by an HDMI cable

My understanding is that this monitor does not have built-in speakers but there is a socket for headphones which could be used to connect external speakers.

Yes you need speakers, your monitor doesn't have any inbuilt speakers

Weird characters on monitor, cannot log-in

Well, either the monitor is messed up and trying to display a message like "No Signal" or the monitor is set for a different language.

What happens when you press the menu button on the monitor? Change you make changes?

It seems the monitor was faulty .The PC that this monitor was on had crashed and some how it had also effected the monitor . I had a family member try the monitor on their computer and it had the same results . Their computer was running WindowsXP .
