HI loralynn0507. Either your Power supply or motherboard is bad. I recommend you take it to a professional because the have spare parts to replace. But, if you are confortable doing stuff with computers, then open your PC, remove all the cables from the motherboard except the power coming from the PS (power supply) and try again. If it boots then start connecting the hard drive, dvd room, etc until you get to the problem. If you still no luck then try removing the motherboard from the case and try again. If that doenst work try with another PS. I hope this helps. Please dont forget to rate and provide positive feedback for our fast - free support today. Thank you :D

Power indicator light is on but will not run, fan turns off and on randomly

It sounds like the power supply in your computer has gone bad. Thats the box you plug the power cable into in the back of the computer. It looks like you should be able to get a standard ATX power supply and replace it.. or have someone do it for you. You can get one for no more than $50, sometimes less.

Power indicator light is on but will not run, fan turns off and on randomly

I would suspect a PSU, how old is the machine? Check the CMOS battery, reseat the Memory mods.

Does not boot up, fans start, internet plugs light, clicks on and off.....seems this is a common problem for these machines, what is the fix?

Instructions
  1. When you press the Power button to start the boot process, the LED lights glow while the computer verifies that there is sufficient electrical power to activate the hardware.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LED lights on the computer do not glow or the LEDs blink briefly and then stop. There is no sound of the fan or hard drive spinning, and the screen remains blank. The computer will not start if there is insufficient battery or AC adapter power.
  2. The BIOS queries various hardware components used for the startup boot process.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow but there is no fan or hard drive sound. The LEDs may glow briefly and then go out.

    Or

The LED lights blink, stop, and then blink a second or third time, but there is no sound from the computer and the screen remains blank. The sequence of the blinking lights indicates a specific error code.

    Or

A series of beeping tones is heard. The sequence of beeping tones indicate a specific error code.

If a hardware component has recently been replaced, or if the PC has been jarred or shaken, there may be a loose connection to the memory chips or hard drive which prevents the computer from starting.
  3. The BIOS loads the basic input (keyboard) and output (advanced LEDs / display screen / boot drives) devices into memory.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, but then the boot process stops and a black screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a communication error or conflict with a hardware component that must be corrected.
  4. The BIOS loads the Windows operating system and starts the services that allow low-level control of all of the background operations.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, the HP or Compaq Logo displays on a black screen, but then the boot process stops and a blue screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a hardware driver error or a software conflict that must be corrected.
  5. Control is transferred to the Windows loader to initiate the display of the advanced settings in the Windows environment.

The Windows logo displays during this step.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the computer performs all the steps in the boot process, but after the Windows Logo displays, the moving Windows progress bar or the rotating cursor stops moving and the boot process stops.

An error message may display on a screen with the Windows logo. In some instances, there is no specific error message.

    Or

A black screen appears and the computer attempts to restart.

The Windows self-check has detected a software conflict that must be corrected.

Acer Aspire 5720 Laptop issues.

It could be the battery. So i'd try to find a store that sells batteries and replace the battery.
Manny laptops will shut off when the battery is dead. So if your laptop works without the battery and only connected to the wallsocket, it's definitely the battery.
With kind regards,

Jeffrey

I guess it is a power supply failure can you try and plug it directly to light without using battery remove the battery before you power it on then notice how it behave then you will know the actual problem if it power on with light then it is battery problem. if not the check the harddisk maybe it is not properly fit in. or does it show bios setting or welcome bios

PC will not power on - fan turns briefly then stops

The easiest way to troubleshoot these syetms is disconnect parts one at a time and try booting each time. This issue may be power related, but may not be the power supply but rather a component pulling too much power and causing a shutdown. First disconnect the ram, one stick at a time, then move on to the cd or dvd player, move through the components to see if any of them are the culprit. Test the PSU to see if it is putting out the proper voltage. Check the processor heatsink for air blockage and remove the processor and replace the thermal paste on the processor and heatsink. An initial high temp will cause the systym to shut down. I am thinking it is your power supply, because when you turn the system on, even if the system doesnt boot, the fan and the components should continue to run. Lets try disconnecting components first, then move on to checking the PSU voltage.

Laptop fails to boot. no post beeps no video Power light comes on Hard Drive light comes on briefly and the Drive can be heard spinning up then stopping. Laptop was originally purchased in North Korea

Clean first its ram module edge connector with soft eraser. But disengaged first its battery, power source and completely shutdown.

Then put it back and try to boot. If this doesn't help let me know . Leave a comment.

When you say power is going to the mobo, are
other fans and lights turning on? You also may have forgotten to plug in
the large ATX power cord from the PSU, or the smaller 4-pin rectangular 12V
power cord. Is the correct local voltage setting for your PSU selected (110
or 220)?
